This beer sat quietly, aging in our barrel room for over a year before we decided it was time - time to blend in some beautiful ripe red grapes, Brettanomyces, freshly emptied wine barrels and time, this beer is infinitely complex and a challenge to the perception of what beer can be. This beer is re-fermented in the bottle and will age for years to come. Straight from the Captain’s cellar to yours, we hope you enjoy.

Thanks to JoeMcPhee for sending this bottle my way - I was going to wait to try this beer, but I just couldn’t - pours a murky red, with a nearly non-existent head - she’s got a lovely aroma - cherry and grape skin tannins, potent oak, mild acetic character, vinegar, moderate earthy funk, light acidity, red wine, and just a hint of fruity sweetness underneath - the flavor is dry and immensely oaky, with loads of tannic, red wine flavor - some mild acetic notes, and an acidic kick that both compliment the dryness - a bit briny/salty through the middle, with a good amount of cheesy, earthy funk - finishes with some kriek-ish cherry character and lingering red wine vinegar, oak and acetone - I prefer the Castleton, but this is still a mighty fine sour ale from Scott.

Ruddy pour. Tart vinous aroma. Flavor is similar with some barnyardy (Brett) notes. Quite nice.

Pours mahogany into a tulip. White head with little retention recedes to nothing. Dark pit fruit, funk and oak aromas. Medium bodied with pit fruit and grapes upfront turning to marshmallow brett and band-aid in the lasting finish.

2015 Batch: Oaky lactic sour aroma with almost a grape musk in there. Taste is mostly lactic sour with a bit of an earthy funk finish. Almost a funky grape finish. Almost a slight boozy oakyness to it. Not overly sour, maybe 4 of 10 sour. Complex and has a descent amount of body. Woody and some dark fruit in there with the grape musk. Solid sour for sure, but for the price it is a step below cascade sours or bruery sours, and even a bit more expensive than those for similar volume. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Thnx Rob ! Pours unclear amber , no real head ( looks like wort) Smell is sour, oaky, fruity. Taste is dry sour, lactic acid. Mild fruity. Nice, but not really as complex as expected. Still very nice though

Draft @ BCTC, Ommegang Brewery. August, 8, 2015. Dirty red, muddy brown color. Aroma is a vinegar bomb! Maybe I can get around this aroma and try to be subjective here…

Flavor is acetone, funky red grapes, funky oak with a sharp vinegar that turns into cherries and other random berries. Steady tartness. For a style I completely hate this turned out more drinkable then I was guessing but I sure the hell wouldn’t stand in line for it.

Batch 4. Beautiful color. Reddish brown. Thick syrupy aroma. Flavor is a little more tart. Full bodied and intense. Finish is a little fruity and tart. Could have a little more depth but really nice
