2.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 8/20
UPDATED: MAY 24, 2016 Tap at J. Ryan?s in Syracuse with ECBT crew. Nose is super sweet...like a hard candy jolly rancher. Kind of gold with a hint of amber. Taste is definitely alcohol at the forefront and at the end. There is a layer of tropical fruit, brown sugar, and more alcohol. This drinks almost like a shot of UV vodka or cherry apple pucker. Really tough to swallow. Hard to enjoy overall. Syrupy mouthfeel. I?ll be seeking another option.

3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle. Faintly cloudy rich yellow with large off-white creamy head, citrus peel aroma, medium carbonation, bitter hoppy taste with citrus peel esthers, somewhat thick body, long bitter finish. Nice but a bit too bitter.

2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Wow over the edge syrup hop to much of a good thing holy cow they failed to label this bitch with the ABV hoppy extreme even for a low hanging fruit captain Lawrence beats dog fish 120. This may lack the warmth and heat of a DFH 120, but it packs a like punch. Super sweet syrup hard to swallow but I like it. I'm not a hater l am a game changer

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Pours clear gold into a tulip. Bright white head with good retention recedes leaving spider lacing. Dusty stone fruit aromas. Thick with hot caramel and honey upfront turning to warming apricot and peach before the lasting earthy hot resin finish. Very warming, this one.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Nice resin, grapefruit rind and tropical fruit nose. A fine white head on an unfiltered tan body. The taste profile is as billed, pine resin, grapefruit rind and splashes of orange and lemon lead the hop heavy taste spectrum. Hits harder than some 100 IBU Imperials, but some have more freshness and distinction to each hop element. A generally dry beer with some sweetness building as the drink progresses. Never gets overly sweet though. A very nice bitter Imperial.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
12 ounce bottle. Pours a hazed honey gold color capped by a firm tight white head. Nice lace. Earthy, dank hoppy nose. First sip brings bitter hops and strong alcohol on the palate. A big resiny bite with tropical fruit notes. This brew is simply just a big bitter hop bomb. Nothing fancy here. Not for the faint of hops.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Pours a mostly clear gold with a thick white head...excellent retention and lacing. Aroma has some fresh spicy hop notes, mild tropical and citrus notes...some pineapple and guava. Flavor is significantly bitter...rind, resin, earthy, piney...not much fruity hops but slightly sweet behind it all. Mouthfeel is light / medium and slightly lively with a dry piney/resinous/rindy finish.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Hazy orange, with a thin white head. Aroma is rich citrus oils, and some sweet candy notes. Taste is the same, with some pithy bitterness and drying alcohol on the palate.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
12oz bottle from Superstar Beverage in Huntington pours a very murky orange with plenty of frothy, white head. I love to say this, but if this was a Tired Hands beer, people would LOVE the look. Nose is huge with pine and pine resin, very very resinous, soapy and herby, grapefruit rind, grassy. Flavor is very bitter, honestly a big bright fresh orange kick, pine and pine sol, grass and straw. Finishes hugely bitter. Palate wrecking bitterness. Glad I ended my night with this.

3.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Pours a slightly cloudy, bright golden orange color with a one finger, frothy white head that very slowly settles into a thick, lasting ring. Very good retention with large streaks of soapy lacing left behind. Visible carbonation bubbling up.
Earthy hop aroma with grassy pine notes and dank, resinous oils countered by light tropical/citrus fruits and a pale malt backbone. Hints of fresh cut grass, pine needle, fresh buds and spruce tip countered by sweet grapefruit and pineapple. There’s a little bit of orange and lemon peel in there as well but the fruit presence isn’t overbearing. The malt backbone really comes through in the aroma but doesn’t hinder the juicy hop presence giving off notes of bread, biscuit and cracker for balance. Nothing really stands out in the nose but the aroma is inviting.
On the fuller end of medium body with a blast of dry, sticky bitterness that lingers over the sweeter notes, pale malt and strong alcohol flavor into a dry finish. The hop profile lacks the balance found in the aroma with almost overwhelming bitterness and oily resins. Very dry and sticky with lots of earthy soil, grass and pine needle flavor. Very subtle tropical/citrus fruit with faint hints of orange peel, grapefruit and pineapple. Still, there is plenty of sweetness provided from the overwhelmingly harsh, boozy finish. Tons of alcohol heat and ethanol flavor killing off most of the interesting hop characteristics. It doesn’t really burn going down but the finish is all boozy sweetness, almost completely overshadowing everything interesting that came before it. Not a bad beer but it’s severely lacking in balance. Even without the strong alcohol presence in the finish, the sweeter fruit notes are overpowered by the strong bitterness and earthy resins. A rare miss from one of my favorite breweries.
