argo0 (6145), Washington DC, USA Oct 21, 2007 (10/18/07, 750ml bottle, thanks Dickinsonbeer) Tan head atop brown-black body. Aroma is medium sweet, Bourbon/vanilla, chocolate. Taste is medium sweet, caramel, cola, light vanilla. Medium-full body. Rastacouere (5258), Montréal, Quebec, Canada Mar 9, 2008 Objectively speaking:
Complex, very funky barrel-ageing experiment on their not very smokey smoked porter.
I like:
No other beer can be compared. Bretty barrel, one of the few bourbons I’d be interested in sampling. Focused, yet complex. Limited roastiness. Vinous enough for the gentle tartness to blend in well. Broad fruity array.
I dislike:
Not much really. just not the biggest fan of the whole vanilla/corny/voluntarily controlled oxidized flavour profile. While the soft, sparkling, but smooth, relatively light body could translate into great drinkability, I just don’t find any freshness that makes me crave for more. No smokiness. I loved their smoked porter and this, not as much. bierkoning (4691), La Tropica, Netherlands Jul 22, 2008 Bottle from Dickinsonbeer, tasted at DTS in Bunnik. Batch # 1. Balsamic vinegar, cinnamon and only a hint of smoke in the aroma. the smoke is more noticeable in the flavor, that has some oaky and sour notes, bretty even. Hint of licorice. Delicious, well balanced beer with some warming alcohol in spite of the modest ABV. CaptainCougar (4624), Rockville, Maryland, USA Nov 28, 2007 Bottle shared by goldtwins on 10/12/07: Pours a barely transparent slightly murky dark mahogany with a frothy, nicely-lacing dark tan head. Aroma of light oaky bourbon and mild vinous notes with a touch of dark caramel and faint smoke. Body starts with good caramel and chocolate malty sweetness and dries out slightly with some mild tartness and oak along with some lingering bourbon and dark chocolate. A pretty nice barrel-aged smoked porter.
