Schroppfy (1724), Ohio, USA Apr 12, 2008 Batch 2 from Jon. Perfect nose - wine and soft sweetness, with wood and outdoors in the rain elements. My buddy says "C’mon, you couldn’t actually know this was a smoked porter as the base beer?!" but I think you almost could if blind. There is a lingering sweetness and smokiness that seems detectable over the really well done classic red wine tartness. Head is similar to the smoked porter’s (had them back to back, growler for the Smoked Porter than bottle here), but with more legginess in the glass. I could smell this forever. To be perfect I would tone down the wine just a smidgeon.
caesar (2471), Zeist, Netherlands Jul 26, 2008 Bottled. Aroma of oak wine, hint of coffee, bit fruity. Wine taste, fruity, bit dry. Taste is better than aroma. bierkoning (4636), La Tropica, Netherlands Jul 22, 2008 Bottle from Dickinsonbeer, tasted at DTS in Bunnik. Batch #2. Reddish brown color. Grapes and a hint of vanilla in the aroma. Mustard and a hint of peat. Vinous flavor, smoky with licorice, mint and oak. Fairly complex. Different flavors follow eachother in a rapid speed. Hints of brett and leather. Complex and likeable. fishingnet (737), Brandon, Florida, USA Jul 20, 2008 Bottle courtesy tpd975. Pours black with a large tan head that leaves good lacing. Aroma of dark fruit, light roasted malt, wine, and oak. Taste is light roast, dark fruit, oak, and wine. Medium mouthfeel with a mild amount of bitterness. Good. jerohen (1458), Bussum, Netherlands Jul 20, 2008 Dutch tasting session Bunnik. Bottled. Opaque, brown head. Fruity nose, balsamic vinegar. Fruity flavour, way more balanced than the bourbon version; in this beer the sourness actually fits. jbrus (4056), Delft, Netherlands Jul 19, 2008 Bottle@Home. This one has a disctinct wine character and is also more balanced than the Bourbon Barrel version of Smoke from the Oak. But ... in my opinion it’s way less interesting and more an average flavor.
