Bottle generously shared by pepsican. Batch #2. Gusher. Poured an opaque black color with a light brown head. The aroma was a nice mixture of typical porter smells (chocolate, roast), red wine, and subdued vinegar. Light acidity up front. Slightly sweet and tarry at the end. Oak and red wine vinegar flavors predominated, but were accompanied by roasty malt and chocolate. The body was lighter than expected and I didn’t get much smoke in the nose or flavor. Good stuff.

Aug 20, 2008 750ml bottle sampled side by side with Rum barrel and Bourbon barrel. Thanks Axilla. Spewed when opened. Poured cloudy brown in color with a small tan head that lingered longer than the other ones. Aroma of vanilla, light fruit and a little roast. Tastes had some lacto sourness, vanilla, oak, red wine notes, with a little smoke and roast. My favorite of the 3 bottles.

Aug 20, 2008 At Vero. Who brought this one? Cheeseman? Thank you so much!! It was one of my favorites at the tasting. Dark cloudy, bloody brown with tan head. Incredible nose yields itself fully and willingly. Funky. Chewy. Salty. Oaky, Incredible. Complex, layered. Smokey. Teaches me lessons about wood character. Love it.

Aug 19, 2008 Courtesy someone @ RBSG and, later, TheCheeseMan. Chestnut brown color, light tan head. Great aroma - oak, wine, licorice, tobacco, light smoke, very light roast. The wine and light roast really go together well. The taste has more red wine character along with some roast, but the porter characters are under the oak and wine. Love the aroma on this one.

Aug 18, 2008 RBSG 2008. Interesting beer that picked up a lot of character from the wine barrels, very sour and tanic, good amount of funk that builds grape tartness. I’m not sure it blended all that well with the original beer, the smokiness didn’t work well with the sourness for me, this turned into almost a sour brown.

Aug 16, 2008 Bottle courtesy of thecheeseman. Pours black with tan head. Sour aroma with vanilla, oak and smoke. Flavors of oak, smoke, vanilla and funky sourness. The aging in the wine barrel really adds a nice touch of wine to the taste. Very nice.
