theisti (951), Leawood, Kansas, USA May 15, 2008 Updated: Jun 9, 2008 750 bottle Colin brought back from his trip to NYC. Batch 2. Shared with us at Uber Tavern in Seattle. Pour is deep dark brown ruby, smallish tan head. Aroma is mostly about the red wine, it is remarkable how much this smells like a Pinot Noir. Behind the wine is some roasted maltiness. Taste of sour sharp winey maltiness. Smoked roastiness. Interesting taste, but pretty divergent from a beer. Finish has sourness. An interesting experiment to be sure, but the end result was in a sort of no man’s land for me.
yespr (5258), Copenhagen O, Denmark Jul 3, 2008 22 fl oz bottle, thanks to Papsoe. Pours dark brown to black with a lacing light brown and creamy head. Extremely fruity and with smooth acidic notes from the bret and barrel. Light roasted malt note too. Flavour starts citric but soon goes into a nice roasted malt flavour before a nice dry and mild woody note appears. Smooth roasted and fruity finish with a light brett note along. Ungstrup (10791), Frederiksberg, Denmark Jul 2, 2008 Bottled. A very dark brown beer with a thin brown head. The aroma is sweet wtih notes of wine, herbs, grapes, and alcohol. The flavor is sweet with strong notes of wine, as well as notes of wood, roasted malt, and a light tart brettanomyces note, almost giving it a flavor of a lambic, leading to a very dry woody finish where the note of wine carries thru. Thanks Papsoe for sharing. madsberg (4358), Bangalore, India Jun 28, 2008 Bottled (Thx Papsoe for sharing). Dark reddish brown coloured. Dense brown head. Sweetness, light smoke, light berries and light spice in the aroma. Has a vague sourness. Flavour of vanilla, wood, berries, herbs and light smoke. Balanced and smooth. Medium to full bodied. Wood, light grape, oak and sweetness in the end. This is a treat indeed. Papsoe (9656), Frederiksberg, Denmark Jun 25, 2008 (Bottle 75 cl) Courtesy of BrianK. Pours an almost opaque black with a vague tint of orange and a dense, creamy beige head. Tart aroma of Brett with lots of pleasant woody accents. Medium body, some burned malt but in a subdued fashion. Again wood and a lightly sour astringent Brett. Light and dry finish. Very refreshing and highly drinkable due to the low ABV. 250608 Jeppe (2634), Ølbutikken, Denmark Jun 25, 2008 Fine brew with a nice balance between the sweetness from the porter and the sourness from the wine barrel. Extremely drinkable and a really nice take on a flemish sour. Roasty Duchesse? I want another one. Thanks Paps.
