SuzyGreenberg (799), Seattle, Washington, USA May 13, 2008 Updated: May 14, 2008 750 ml bottle, batch 2 - thanks so much to goldtwins for the trade; pours a fuzzy dark brown with big dark tan head; aromas are sort of a strange mix of a stale tartness and red wine; flavors are fruity, sweet and a little chewy; soft, fluffy texture; finish is dry and tart; a very odd beer overall and pretty much all characteristics of the porter are gone, especially the flavors; i haven’t had the regular porter to compare though; drank alongside the rum and bourbon editions and all three were rather disappointing; hope to try again when i stop by captain lawrence in late june
caesar (2471), Zeist, Netherlands Jul 26, 2008 Bottled. Aroma of oak wine, hint of coffee, bit fruity. Wine taste, fruity, bit dry. Taste is better than aroma. bierkoning (4636), La Tropica, Netherlands Jul 22, 2008 Bottle from Dickinsonbeer, tasted at DTS in Bunnik. Batch #2. Reddish brown color. Grapes and a hint of vanilla in the aroma. Mustard and a hint of peat. Vinous flavor, smoky with licorice, mint and oak. Fairly complex. Different flavors follow eachother in a rapid speed. Hints of brett and leather. Complex and likeable. fishingnet (737), Brandon, Florida, USA Jul 20, 2008 Bottle courtesy tpd975. Pours black with a large tan head that leaves good lacing. Aroma of dark fruit, light roasted malt, wine, and oak. Taste is light roast, dark fruit, oak, and wine. Medium mouthfeel with a mild amount of bitterness. Good. jerohen (1458), Bussum, Netherlands Jul 20, 2008 Dutch tasting session Bunnik. Bottled. Opaque, brown head. Fruity nose, balsamic vinegar. Fruity flavour, way more balanced than the bourbon version; in this beer the sourness actually fits. jbrus (4056), Delft, Netherlands Jul 19, 2008 Bottle@Home. This one has a disctinct wine character and is also more balanced than the Bourbon Barrel version of Smoke from the Oak. But ... in my opinion it’s way less interesting and more an average flavor.
