Moderate dark malt aroma with a light amount of smoke. It donít have that over powering smoke flavor. Black color with a large tan head. Light chalky malt flavor in the beginning that fades in the end. Light bitter smoke in the finish.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
500 ml bottle courtesy of BlackIPA. Thanks again, Shawn. Probably the bottle he sent I was most excited for. Pours a darker blackish brown hue, good deep dark middle with nice glowing ruby edges and bottom. A cakey brownish head atop stays firm and larger, sticks around and laces well. Pretty beer. Aromas offer bits of cocoa, pretzels, and biscuits. Some dry toastiness, mellow yet growing smokey malts, campfire and roasted malts. Some toasty biscuits, a gentle carmelization but not really sweet. Warmth brings a bit more decent campfire and cherrywood smoke. Initial is medium bodied, a firm wash over the palate. The front is a bit hoppy, dry, roasty. Some soda bread and dry elements. Not heavy, some good carbonation, a touch of cocoa presses on. Some toastiness, biscuits, mellow meaty and faint peaty smoke as we move on. Cocoa, some toffee, not sweet, a creamy body in the middle a bit besides that smokey life. Backend is more cocoa, faint red fruit, more dryness, a bit roasty, firm toast. Mellow campfire, almost more of an earthy, ashy smoke. Faint cherrywood sweeter smoke. Still a nice body without being overbearing, the finish shows. More cocoa, some toastiness, pretzels and biscuit. Almost a milk chocolate feel at times, especially as we move back. The smoke element is decent, more a compliment instead of the focus. As a Smokehead, Iíd prefer a firmer element in this one. As it warms, it does become a bit more prominent in the backend and finish and lingers which wins a point from me. But overall itís a well constructed, approached beer with some good flavors and quite drinkable in my opinion. Nice.

5/13/13. Weird shaped not small not big bottle from my boi BlackIPA! Deep brown almost black pour with a small tan head. Light but definite smoke on the aroma, salty ham and barbecue, with a touch of roasted malts. Sweet malty flavor, caramel, coffee, etc., with more of that definite smoked malt, but far from overwhelming... well balanced and tasty. Thanks, bro!

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Pours dark brown, almost black with a tan head. Smells like the smoked venison sausage I had yesterday. Taste is like a slight smokey coffee and vanilla notes. Thin on the body for this porter and the carbonation remains real low, which I wish there was more to help with the mouth feel. Overall a decent smoked brew.

500 ml thanks to UDBeernut. Porter and smokey. Smoke not overbearing, but for me, Iím just not a smoked beer person. Bit of roast underneath as well. I get why smoked beer people would like this.

3.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Sample at brewery. Pours brown with a thin khaki head. A bit of smoke on the nose. Lots of licorice and malt on the tongue. Finishes clean. Another winner from captain Lawrence.

3.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
On tap at the brewery. Pours very dark, with just a little top foam. Light aroma of smoke and coffee. Lively, subtle taste that lasts and is propelled by a lasting carbonation. Overall a very likable porter, and Iím not usually a big porter guy.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Lacquer black with a light brown marshmallowy head. Aroma is roast and phenolics, with taste the same, but more acrid and phenolic than the aroma would suggest. Finishes in dark, slightly acidic treacle notes. $4/500ml
