COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A complex beer, with layers of flavors unfolding as this beer slides down your throat. Before the introduction of indirect-fired malt kilns, all beers had a smoky flavor. Today only a handful of brewers produce beer reminiscent of those of the past. We use imported German smoked malt to add depth and complexity to our Smoked Porter. Sensory Profile: Aromas of smoked wood, licorice, and dark fruit. The flavor is a balance of smokiness, roasted malt, coffee, and malty sweetness. Food Pairing: A natural match for any smoked or grilled meats. The smoky flavor of the meat and the unique smoky flavor of the beer blend beautifully to elevate the enjoyment of them both.

The Fulton Grand, Brooklyn tap ($6): Pours a black body with a creamy beige head. Aroma is mostly of roasted malts and coffee. There is really not all that much smoke. The body of the beer is on the the lighter side and is very creamy from the tap. Roasted malts make a strong showing, but they are not as smoky as they could have been in a smoked porter. Some chocolate notes are also present. When I drink a smoked porter, I generally want it to be a little bit more on the smoked side, but this is still an excellent and sessionable porter.

5/13/13. Weird shaped not small not big bottle from my boi BlackIPA! Deep brown almost black pour with a small tan head. Light but definite smoke on the aroma, salty ham and barbecue, with a touch of roasted malts. Sweet malty flavor, caramel, coffee, etc., with more of that definite smoked malt, but far from overwhelming... well balanced and tasty. Thanks, bro!

Pint bottle. Pours a translucent brown with a beige head of foam. Aroma is smoked meat and roasted malt. Sweet and smoky. Really nice.

Pours dark brown, almost black with a tan head. Smells like the smoked venison sausage I had yesterday. Taste is like a slight smokey coffee and vanilla notes. Thin on the body for this porter and the carbonation remains real low, which I wish there was more to help with the mouth feel. Overall a decent smoked brew.

500 ml thanks to UDBeernut. Porter and smokey. Smoke not overbearing, but for me, I’m just not a smoked beer person. Bit of roast underneath as well. I get why smoked beer people would like this.

Sample at brewery. Pours brown with a thin khaki head. A bit of smoke on the nose. Lots of licorice and malt on the tongue. Finishes clean. Another winner from captain Lawrence.

On tap at the brewery. Pours very dark, with just a little top foam. Light aroma of smoke and coffee. Lively, subtle taste that lasts and is propelled by a lasting carbonation. Overall a very likable porter, and I’m not usually a big porter guy.

Lacquer black with a light brown marshmallowy head. Aroma is roast and phenolics, with taste the same, but more acrid and phenolic than the aroma would suggest. Finishes in dark, slightly acidic treacle notes. $4/500ml

Bottle. Pours almost black with small khaki head. Aroma is smokier than I expected: lots of licorice, dark chocolate, and smoked wood. Slight hickory quality in the flavor with plenty of campfire smoke, all of which is covered by delicious chocolate malt and coffee drains. A bit more smoke than I expected. Thanks for sharing JB.

From Nathaniel’s Corner Store. This had the nice toasted porter notes with chocolate and coffee, but was heavy on the smoke both in the nose and palate. Not my thing, yet at least.

Bottle, pours a nice black, aroma is smoky and flavour is so as well, this is one of the better smoke beers I have had, it was not to smoky and a nice roastiness from the porter comes through, nice offering
