Commercial Description:
This beer is an American adaptation to the classic Belgian style of beer known as a Tripel. Historically Tripels were brewed to have a very light golden color, a moderate hop presence, and be around 9% alcohol. But we are not in Belgium, so I decided to crank up the hops, dry hop the beer with American Amarillo hops, and brew it to 10% ABV. This is our American Tripel, enjoy. Sensory Profile: Enjoy in a goblet or wine glass. Tropical fruit and honey are the two biggest aromas coming from this lively brew. While the hop bitterness is not as powerful as an IPA, the hop flavor melds nicely with the fruity flavors created by the imported Belgian yeast strain used. Food Pairing: This beer goes great with roasted vegetables, fish and rotisserie chicken. And it can be used as a aperitif before dinner with shrimp cocktail.

Other people at the tasting didn’t like this one but I found it interesting. Maybe its the homebrewer in me wanting to see what happens when something wacky is tried. Hazy gold, fluffy white head. Nose is really unlike any beer I’ve had before. Banana, yeast, resiny hops, caramel, odd sugaryness. Flavor is resiny hops up front, yeasty dryness, clove, alcohol. More hops come through in the finish with yeasty spiciness, caramel/butterscotch. An odd jumble, I don’t know that I’d buy another bottle, but an interesting brew.

750mL bottle, sampled alongside Golden Delicious. Poured yellow golden, with a moderate sized white head. Aroma of yeast, wheat, tropical fruit and alcohol, with some citric hops in the finish. Flavor opens with wheat, yeast and fruit, which quickly give way to hefty hops, which take over the flavor and provide a long, bitter finish. Interesting American interpretation of the style.

Thanks to Ken for this one. 2006 bottle. Hazy pale gold color, and an effervescent head. Aroma is yeasty and acidic fruity, apples. Sweet, fruity flavor along with a dry bitter finish. Carbonation is quite lively.

Goddammit. Fucking skunked. Aroma is skunky, apples. As it warms the skunked aroma goes away, but it still smells pretty nice besides that. Taste is skunky, more apples, sweet fizzy fruitiness. Some paper in this, dryness. Very solid. Lots of hops. I wish this was not skunked. Well, crafted, not-alcoholic. Just a shame they use green bottles. -- need a fresh, unskunked re-rate

750mL Bottle. Puckered apple skin aroma, light waft of coconut meat and Chinese five spice. Delicate, floral and spring-like. Misty. Pours a brilliant deep honey gold, with a soft, off-white, opalescent head above. Flavor is a rich Belgian candi, backed with lemon, savory Mediterranean spice, and herbs. Oregano and thyme peak past light acid note. Great body. Fresh. Lively. Hops don’t really show, they just add to the yeast and malt fiasco. Somewhat savory. Light and dry. Crisp. A delightful rendition, with good yeast character. I’m just not getting through to the hops as much as I would have anticipated, but it’s a nice beer. Alcohol hides well. The smack reveals more hop leaf, but it comes as a bit of an afterthought by then. Great character all around. Maybe not as complex as I would have expected, but delicious nonetheless.

Bottle, from someone via trade. This one has been sitting in my garage (aka "the cellar") for a long time. With all the talk of hops in this beer, I feared that waiting so long to drink this would have been a mistake. So, its Thursday night, and I don’t have to be back at work for 11 days, so tonight my wife and I popped this one. Super carbonated pour. Really fruity, floral aroma. Flavor is deep, rich, fruity and powerful. Very well done, actually reminds me of De Dolle Teve, one of my favorite beers. I really didn’t get much hop flavor in this one. A little too much heat for me, but otherwise, excellent.

Shared at Cleveland tasting 3/15 Batch 1 I think, Bottle: Pours a clear copper with a white head. Aroma, yeast, some fruits, sweet bready malts, floral notes. Flavor, spices, yeasty notes, bready malts, floral hops on the finish.

Bottle shared at Cleveland tasting. Not sure by who. Notes are starting to get a bit foggy! Hah...Poured a hazy gold. Taste was sweet honey, and spicey (cloves?) and some citrus.
