bu11zeye (5430), Frisco, Texas, USA Feb 2, 2008 (750ml bottle) Pours a cloudy golden body with a tall dense long-lasting white head. Aroma of orange peel, mango, light florals, and light pineapple. Flavor of floral/grassy hops, orange peel, dried mango, light apple, some apricot, and spicy yeast. Theis (3617), Denmark Jan 30, 2008 Bottle (From 2006 - Thanks Puzzl) at home - club tasting. Cloudy yellow - white head. Honey sweetness, wheaty, smooth, cactus, pepper, grass, light piney, light citric, fresh, orange, light light yeasty. Dry finish. Very nice. I am afraid that the amarillo hops is changed to sweetness. Nate (2533), Indiana, Pennsylvania, USA Jan 30, 2008 Sampled at the RBPG; bottle courtesy of lukin013. Mild flowery spice, coriander, candi sugar. Orange blossoms and light alcoholic vapors. Cloudy pale amber with lacing foamy off-white head. Medium body with effervescent carbonation. Warming. Sweet mild and spicy notes with yeasty funk. Sugar and syrup. Couldn’t have a lot of this at once, maybe one per night, but tastes very nice. A bit cloying, with a spicy orange after. LinusStick (1831), Moon Twp, suburb of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA Jan 28, 2008 Great tripel! Aroma was pure alcohol with a hint of light fruit. Pour was a nice light gold with a puffy 3 finger white head. Taste was very full and strong. Heavy apple and pear taste that had a champagne-like aftertaste and mouthfeel. Nice carbonation and only a mild alcohol burn for a 10%er. Very nice. cheapdark (2011), Monacatootha, Pennsylvania, USA Jan 28, 2008
Had the pleasure of sampling this at the 1/27/2008 Pittsburgh ratebeer.com gathering upstairs, Sharp Edge Creekhouse. It will be a long time, if ever I am invited again and I see a spread of bottles like I did there - ever again. I am not good enough for the beers that were that we sampled! For example, how about this beer; C.L. Xtra Gold, provided by John, thanks Lukin! Winish aroma, typically alarming sweet as with many trippels. Big foamy head, cloudy. Good tingley carbonation, more than expected for the style. Some bitter bite. Mild medicinal qualities on the finish. Not as good as Chimay Triple / Blanche (White) or CBW millenium trippel but certainly better than Urthel Hibernus Quentum Tripel or Merry Monks.
zebracakes (1214), Washington DC, USA Jan 28, 2008 Bottle sampled at the Ratebeer meet-up 01.27.08 at the Sharp Edge Creekhouse. Beer courtesy of lukin013.
Hazy gold, white head. Aroma is funky, musty, wheaty. Flavor is the same with honey, kiwi, syrup. mj (4975), Colorado, USA Jan 27, 2008 750ml shared by jasonp - 2007 batch. Nose of fruit and ammonia is my first impression, but later on there’s more pillowy lemon zest and pine scented yeast, with a creamed banana yeast note that grows throughout the drink, released more and more with increasing temperature. Tastes of creamed banana, milk, coconut cream and tropical fruits, with a really lively and fresh citrus mango and pineapple hop flavor. Frothy, crisp, effervescent, with some sweet candy sugar and lemon drop candy flavor, along with milder wheat and a strange twang of sour pears. Overall a complex and unique beer, with a lot to like. argo0 (6861), Washington DC, USA Jan 24, 2008 (750ml bottle, Batch 3, thanks jasonp) Cloudy apple juice body with small white head. Aroma is moderately sweet, herbal, grape, some mango, pineapple, berry. Taste is medium sweet, pineapple, grape, mango. Medium body, fairly smooth, alcohol well contained. I haven’t shared the enthusiasm for this brewery that seems to have caught the site by storm, but this is a quality beer, and easily my favorite of those I’ve tried.
