Commercial Description:
This beer is an American adaptation to the classic Belgian style of beer known as a Tripel. Historically Tripels were brewed to have a very light golden color, a moderate hop presence, and be around 9% alcohol. But we are not in Belgium, so I decided to crank up the hops, dry hop the beer with American Amarillo hops, and brew it to 10% ABV. This is our American Tripel, enjoy. Sensory Profile: Enjoy in a goblet or wine glass. Tropical fruit and honey are the two biggest aromas coming from this lively brew. While the hop bitterness is not as powerful as an IPA, the hop flavor melds nicely with the fruity flavors created by the imported Belgian yeast strain used. Food Pairing: This beer goes great with roasted vegetables, fish and rotisserie chicken. And it can be used as a aperitif before dinner with shrimp cocktail.

RBSG 2007 Grand Tasting. Murky yellow with a bubbly white head. Orange citrus nose, bread, tropical fruit. Fruity flavors balanced by a healthy serving of citrus hop. Good, but I couldn’t really get into it. Would like to try again.

Thanks to JohnC for sharing this one. A fruity sweet offering, with some bitter hang to back it up. Off-style but enjoyable, not a bad effort.

Lively golden color, cloudy and thick. Perfect head retention. Aroma of green apples soaked in honey and crème brulee. A distant haze of farmhouse stink amidst the lively, citrusy appropriation of the Amarillo hops. Unpredictable and lively taste of cotton candy, vodka, white pepper and vanilla bean rum. Alcohol commands respect. Sour fruit esters give it a champagne sentiment to temper the force. Yeast presence is also imposing in a pristine Belgian fashion. Finishes on a sweet, sticky flourish of candied almonds and walnuts. Palate boasts thickness and resolve with an arrogant, full, hoppy texture – this is the most obvious American-ism. If there’s such a thing as ‘cutting edge,’ this would be it. Dynamic, interesting, and different. Thanks Andy!

Bottle. Over carbonated - The first glass I poured was ALL foam, and, while I don’t claim to be a pouring expert, this was ridiculous. Good golden color though, and a long lasting white head. Aroma is resiny orange peel and coriander, slightly spicy, light hops, and some candi sugar. Pleasantly fresh and summery. Flavor mirrors the aroma well, very clean finish. Too carbonated, as I said. A very decent beer, I would definitely drink it again. Rerate - didn’t have the carbonation problem this time. Great, solid, balanced beer. Bump. Rerate - much hoppier smelling than I remembered. I’m not changing my rating, but I thought it was worth noting.

this brew has some fruitiness with a balance of hoppiness. It’s a bit foamy, but not bad.

Sharp citrus-tangerine aroma with sweet and fruity underpinnings although the hops are definitely the feature. Hazy golden-tan body is topped by a generous, large bubbled, meringue-like, white head that lasts well. Flavour is up up front with the hops but reveals a melange of complex fruitiness just after the initial sip. Orange citrus hop character blends seamlessly with apples, pears and a honey-like sweetness. Malt character is pleasant and doughy with some caramel. Spiciness lingers in the finish. Bitterness is pronounced without overpowering. Lasting sweet aftertaste. Medium full body with initially strong carbonation that becomes very soft and pleasant as it warms. Other than mild warming, alcohol is never notable. Bottle sampled with Oakes in June 2007.

Batch 1 Bottle 2006: Pours a beautiful looking hazy, honeyish golden color with a mountainous off-white frothy head that laces nicely. Very aromatic. Very spicy and citrusy. Complex notes of herbal honey, perfumy orange-zest, peppery notes. Nice aroma. The body is nicely carbonated and lively. The flavor is a great mix of sweet honey-like fruityness with a balancing spiciness. Very fruity flavors come out with some sour apple, mandarin, citruses, light caramel hints, nice Belgian yeast esters, almost an almondy touch and a nice peppery, spicy dryish finish. A very complex and drinkable Tripel with nicely hidden alcohol.

Sampled at the RBSG ’07 Grand Tasting room. Pours a hazy golden straw yellow brew with a fizzy white head with good retention and lacing. Aroma is complex with Belgian yeast, some sweet tropical fruits, vanilla and some grassy hops. Taste is highly carbonated, sweet bread dough flavors, herbal spices and some citrus peel. Palate is medium bodied and a sweet aftertaste. Finish is smooth and slightly dry.
