jb (1024), Rochester, New York, USA Aug 31, 2009 Bottle at the RB Rochester Gathering, Sept. 09. Thanks, ElJefe! Slight haze to this, yellow. Very light, delicate lemon nose. Small carbonation, thick, syrupy, fruity palate. Nice dry finish. Really enjoyed it. KyotoLefty (1371), Kyoto, Japan Aug 31, 2009 75 cl bottle at the RB Rochester Gathering, Sept. 09. Thanks, ElJefe.
Glowing golden color. Herbal, fragrant aroma with lemon and honey. Spicy, peppery flavor with honey, citrus, rich golden malts and good fruit. Very nice balance. A well-done tripel. Ughsmash (3981), Waukesha, Wisconsin, USA Aug 15, 2009 750mL bottle from the first batch. Poured crystal-clear brighter golden with a huge, creamy cap of white head.. left sticky lacing on the glass. The aroma picked up earthy white pepper and degraded, but definite floral Amarillo character over a pale and lesser bready malt base.. tangerines, vanilla, and a hint of oak were laced through it. The flavor had a whole lot more floral hoppage than your traditional tripel, but that was the intention.. bready malts at the core, again picking up a little vanila.. dry white pepper, coriander, and oak joined the hops on the edges.. finished spicy and a touch hot. Medium-plus bodied with a bit too much carbonation on the palate.. oxidation was starting to set in, but it still held itself together nicely. I’ll bet this is totally different fresh, and I’m down for trying it. decaturstevo (1971), decatur, Tennessee, USA Jul 14, 2009 Lightly hazed gold pour. Aroma of pepper and corriander. A flavor of brown sugar, light malt and an odd likeable bitter finish. Medium bodied with very good carbonation. DeadGirl (192), West Palm Beach, Florida, USA Jul 7, 2009 Updated: Oct 18, 2009On tap at Rattle ’N’ Hum (Midtown, NYC): Pours a bright, light golden colour. For the ABV percentage, this beer is dangerously drinkable and is pretty much punching me in the face. It’s aweome. A variety of hops takeover the flavor with a mix of honey and fruit. Flavorful and strong- simply wonderful. #051 on 07072009, DG. shigadeyo (2210), Harrison, Ohio, USA Jun 30, 2009 5/07/2009: Captain Lawrence Xtra Gold American Tripel Ale produces tons of fluffy white white foam in the glass. After letting it settle down (or pouring it a little more carefully), a nice, clear, golden liquid with an surprisingly light level of carbonation appears. The aroma is just a little sweet with plenty of what my brain is saying must be orange peel and corriander. This beer is airy on the palate (a bit more carbonated than the appearance lets on) and sweet with the welcomed Tripel alcohol strength. Some fresh fleshy fruit flavors like faint peach and cantelope strart to show up when it warms. There is a good spicy yeastiness in the finish. Overall this is a really good, strong, moderately sweet beer that fits the bill what I like in a Tripel.
1 pint, 9.4 fl. oz. bottle from via trade with hopdog. Thanks Steve! Rating #221 for this beer.
Lubiere (4464), Ottawa, Ontario, Canada Jun 12, 2009 A hazed amber ale with a thin wite head. In aroma, a pleasant herbal mint, with honey, notes of Brett and warming alcohol. In mouth, a great Orval style ale with herbal qualities, warming alcohol, good caramel malts, not too sweet. Rich and pleasing. Thanks Goldorak! Sampled June 4 2009. noncaloric (602), Madison, Wisconsin, USA Jun 11, 2009 Big thanks to puzzl. Pours a hazy gold with an enormous, open, exuberant white head that leaves gobs of lace on the glass. Aroma of concentrated pear with a distinct champagne dryness. Flavor is pear drop, slightly marred by being more unripe than ripe pear. Underneath, a smooth, full-bodied malt backbone and high-gravity warmth oddly complements a flavor profile suggestive of a lighter, more refreshing beer. Nonetheless delicious.
