Commercial Description:
This beer is an American adaptation to the classic Belgian style of beer known as a Tripel. Historically Tripels were brewed to have a very light golden color, a moderate hop presence, and be around 9% alcohol. But we are not in Belgium, so I decided to crank up the hops, dry hop the beer with American Amarillo hops, and brew it to 10% ABV. This is our American Tripel, enjoy. Sensory Profile: Enjoy in a goblet or wine glass. Tropical fruit and honey are the two biggest aromas coming from this lively brew. While the hop bitterness is not as powerful as an IPA, the hop flavor melds nicely with the fruity flavors created by the imported Belgian yeast strain used. Food Pairing: This beer goes great with roasted vegetables, fish and rotisserie chicken. And it can be used as a aperitif before dinner with shrimp cocktail.

Bottle thanks to dchmela. Cloudy golden orange pour with a big foamy white head. Strong apricot and milder citrus. Big taste of fresh tart crisp apples. Light bready yeast. Good balance of sweet/yeasty/slight sourness. Nice floral notes. Pretty boozy, which I found to be one of the few drawbacks of this beer.

Bottle via trade. I’ll take this as an American twist on the Belgian basic. Good, but different. A little more bitterness and hop characteristic than typical. Missing some of the expected sweetness as a balancer. Still good though. Honestly did not notice a HINT of the 10 ABV; very well hidden.

American Tripel? Belgian IPA...? Lightly clouded dark yellow. Delicious golden aroma. Dusty juicy grapefruit Tripel. Pretty clean taste. Lots of hops. A big hoppy Belgian IPA!!

Had from the bottle - I am so happy they are doing that now - and poured into a snifter. It pours a cloudy, unfiltered looking yellow with a thin head. The aroma to me it dominated by citrus. A very very strong citrus aroma that follows through to the taste. The taste is complex bring the citrus, some earthy tastes, fruits like bannanas and it is sweet while sipping but ends a touch bitter. It gets better and better as it goes on. can knock you on your butt if you aren’t careful.

Style and Glass: Abbey Tripel; Trappist glass, tulip ABV, Volume & Calories: 10 % in 25.4 fl oz. estimated at 400 C Purchased at: Canal’s Burlington, NJ for $13.29 after discount. Aroma: very nice, fruit, spices, hops, burn, alcohol. 10 out of 10. Visuals: okay label design, golden, bright, hazy, thin white head, great lace. 5 out of 5. Taste: well balanced, high malt, medium hops, great strength, master craft. 10 out of 10. Palate: high quality, smooth texture, long easy finish. 4 out of 5. Overall: An absolutely delicious beer, easy to drink despite the ABV. I would get it again, but it’s so damn expensive, I doubt I will. Expertly crafted. 18 out of 20.

Bottle: Poured a pale orange with a sizeable white/cream head. Nose had notes of ripe apples, floral hops, candied sugar and some biscuit malt tones. Medium bodied with lively carbonation...flavors consisted of a sweet malt backbone with the candied sugar notes showing up and a wonderful "true" apple flavor. Some mild floral and bitter notes on the finish. Not as good as Brass Monkey’s Tenacious Apple Tripel but still quite good.

Lightly hazed dark golden color with a taller, wispy off-white head that collapses in a relatively short period of time. Sweet grapefruit and pale malts dominate the aromas. Orange blossom honey and a bit of spice and pineapple-kiwi also in the nose. Quite enjoyable. Pale malt start, but a Emeril type BAM shortly after. Light fruit and flambé’ pierce the tongue like a ample pour of kirchwasser on a pan of seared bananas. Spice of the yeast, hops and alcohol all come together to make this a brew that demands some attention. Verses the American tripel descriptor, I’d consider it a Belgian tripel with an American attitude. Some licorice comes out as it warms. Linger is a bit too sharp and unforgiving. Not sure that there is a place for an imperial tripel, but this is a nice strong example of one.
