Flavor is dominated by the spicy yeast with candi sugar, lemon, orange, coriander and a ton of wheat. Very spicy and phenolic with the yeast dominating this beer.
GMCC2181 (308), Bear, Delaware, USA Jun 30, 2008 Bottle from Big fern in NY, thanks! I shared this at a tasting at stateline and everyone thought it was a good beer... Taste was kind of dry, small amount of hops, spicy, grassy and sweet at the same time. I would of never guessed it to be over 10%! Smooth and easy to drink. As nimbleprob said "full bodied but not heavy". Oveall a well crafted beer. Thanks again FL! nimbleprop (552), Washington, Washington DC, USA Jun 25, 2008 Big 750ml bottle pours a hazy, translucent straw gold with a thin, lacing white head. Nose is very pleasant, perfume, grass, banana, clove and slight peppery hops. Flavor is very grainy, grassy, slighly sweet and rather spicy. Full bodied, but not heavy, with little warning of the heavy alcohol. An exercise in subtlety for sure, but very drinkable. Boutip (1725), Gatineau, Quebec, Canada Jun 24, 2008 Bottle courtesy of Beerlando: Poured a deep golden and lightly hazy color ale with a huge foamy head with good retention and good lacing. Aroma of Amarillo hops with a medium sweet malt base with some light fruity ester. Taste is also dominated by some light fruity ester with some medium-sweet malt base and a hoppy finish which kind of detract from the fine mal base. Full body with great carbonation and no apparent alcohol. Interesting and different take from the classic Belgian style but in the end the finish is too dry and hoppy to raise this beer to classic level. awaisanen (1116), Irvine, California, USA Jun 19, 2008 From a 750mL Bottle. Courtesy of CharlesDarwin. Thank, Tom! Pours a mostly transparent, ripened banana gold color with a thick head of fizzy white. Fruity banana, papaya, and pear yeast esters with a hint of confectioner’s sugar. There’s a nice bready malt base that is livened up by some doughy yeast. Restrained citrusy hop resin, along with something lighter, perhaps a kiss of lemon zest. Light bodied, heavily carbonated mouthfeel with a prickling effervescence. Flavors of mild black pepper phenols up front on the palate, along with some honey malt. The hops come out mid-palate, combining with the yeast notes to create an almost funky lemon character. Candied orange, biscuit, and dusty pineapple rind. This tastes like it has a touch of brett in it, but it’s very subtle, and if it actually is brett, it’s adding a nice layer of complexity to the brew. The Amarillo hops come out boldly in the finish, leaving a lemon citrus bitterness lingering in the finish with some warming alcohols. Davecooks (1128), Bay Area, California, USA Jun 16, 2008 Bottled. Pale, copper color with huge ivory head. Fruity aroma with some sugar and estery notes. Cirusy fruit flavors with a bready sweetness. Somewhat spicy. very quick on the palate. Clean.
