COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This beer is an American adaptation to the classic Belgian style of beer known as a Tripel. Historically Tripels were brewed to have a very light golden color, a moderate hop presence, and be around 9% alcohol. But we are not in Belgium, so I decided to crank up the hops, dry hop the beer with American Amarillo hops, and brew it to 10% ABV. This is our American Tripel, enjoy. Sensory Profile: Enjoy in a goblet or wine glass. Tropical fruit and honey are the two biggest aromas coming from this lively brew. While the hop bitterness is not as powerful as an IPA, the hop flavor melds nicely with the fruity flavors created by the imported Belgian yeast strain used. Food Pairing: This beer goes great with roasted vegetables, fish and rotisserie chicken. And it can be used as a aperitif before dinner with shrimp cocktail.

(750ml bottle) Pours a cloudy golden body with a tall dense long-lasting white head. Aroma of orange peel, mango, light florals, and light pineapple. Flavor of floral/grassy hops, orange peel, dried mango, light apple, some apricot, and spicy yeast.

Citrus on the nose and Pine on the palate. There is a grapefruit flavor that lingers on the otherwise clean palate. The Alc. is very well masked, it doesn’t seem nearly as strong a beer as it is.

75 cl bottle @ O’Hara’s Freehouse. Rated on 18.02.2011
Aroma has soapy citrus, some spices and hints of alcohol. Flavour is rather rich on citrus. Also some spices and hints of alcohol. Good tripel, although the alcohol comes through too much.

I opened the bottle of Xtra Gold on my coffee table, turned around to grab a glass and within a minute the carbonation had overflowed the bottle and onto the table. The bubbles continued to foam out and over the bottle and make a horrible mess of my coffee table. The rest of the experience with the Xtra Gold was great! Very flavorful, complex, and delicious! The best Captain Lawrence brew I’ve had yet!

sweet and full of fruit, vegetable and wheat. mild bitterness builds until the finish. a bit slick with a nice foam near the end. fresh malted barley character sets this apart.

Wicked hoppy nose (for a triple). Light gold in color with a white head. Starts hoppy and finishes spicey-begian yeasty. Nice complex flavors, one of the more unique triples.

(07 bottle from bhensonb, thanks Bill!) Pours out a hazy, well, gold color with a thin white head that leaves behind a sheet of lacing and retains very well. Aroma is very strong, and I can smell it a couple of feet away. The aroma is loaded with fruit scents, with the predominant smell being canned lychee fruit (in a big way), along with accompanying scents of green grapes and light pineapple. A little bit of floral honey peaks out as this sits a bit. Mandarin oranges also make their presence known. Lot of stuff going on here. Baked bread and pale malts show up with more warming along with some oxidation which accompanies the scents instead of detracting from them. There’s some butterscotch here too, which again only adds to the complexity. Flavor has a strong taste of pale malt sweetness, light honeycomb, a floral element, minerals, and a faint fruitiness that is not comparable to the expressiveness displayed in the aroma. Finishes marginally bitter with a dry yeastiness, but the finish abruptly vanishes and the flavor does not hold a candle to the great aroma. The mouthfeel is somewhat light for a tripel, borderline watery, with a decent amount of carbonation. The 10% abv is in no way detectable. Overall this beer is a mixed bag, as the aroma was fantastic, but the flavor was nothing short of mediocre.

750 ml. Hazy golden body with a frothy white head, slowly diminishing. Aroma of coriander, citrus, candied fruits, toasted grain, flowers and pepper. The flavor is moderately to heavily sweet and lightly bitter. It finishes lightly to moderately sweet and moderately bitter. Medium to full body, velvety texture and lively carbonation. Peppery alcohol in the finish and a bit on the sweet side (though avoiding the cloying sweetness of many US tripels), but nice spice flavors from the yeast and hops along with notes of pineapple and pine.

Bottle shared by mattyb83 pours a clear golden/ yellow with a large white head. Aroma of orange, coriander, Belgian yeast, hops spice, a nice sting in the nose. Taste of sweet Belgian yeast, hop spice sting, honey, and orange. Pleasant, just not a favorite style of mine.

Bottle. Pour is straw in color with a medium sized, frothy white head. Crystal clear looking, too. Definitely get tropical fruit in the aroma. Nice stuff, but I’m kind of drunk at this point. Taste is lighter for a tripel. Good spice character in the flavor. Reminds me of juicy fruit bubblegum, actually. That’s a positive, by the way, folks. I like this, but honestly I like it for the fact that it is much easier to drink than most tripels. Hides the alcohol very well.

Tap @ Captain Lawrence... Just like its younger sibling, this one poured golden, pale yellow with a white head. Nice lacing. Some alcohol warmth with bit yeast esters. Citrus, black pepper spice, and other earthy tones. Also some light fruits and malt sweetness. Super earthy, fizzy, well carbonated palate. Super nice.
