2.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 Alphadelic (1470) - Portland, USA - MAY 5, 2011
Cool bottle. A bit fuddy on the nose, nothing much going on. A little hop with no particular character. Some toffee malt which is a little dusty and overly chewy.
3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 dresden (266) - Saskatchewan, CANADA - DEC 5, 2011
Bomber with a swingtop. Picked up in some grocery store in Portland. Consumed Oct 26, 2011.
I don’t know why, but I had high hopes for this. I like the design, the beer looked great (hazy orange with a good white head), but it sort of tasted off (not very citrusy, not very piney). It sort of had the taste of a beer that was sitting in the store too long or the swingtop had come open, and yet this one was fresh and lots of pop when I opened it. Unfortunate.
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 5000 (4104) - Hardened Liver, Washington, USA - NOV 6, 2011
Bottle:   Really dirty pale caramel, moderate to large frothy off-white head, very nice lacing.   Seems like freshly squeezed hops on the nose.   A little sweet tea and citrus peel as well.   Citrusy hoppy start, not too bright, but strong.   Smooth, like its cask or something.   Carbonation is low, but the body is still nice.   There is a slight hint of unripened peach... yeah, its peach tea (subtle) with citrus and hop aspects.   Pretty tasty.   Slight astringency on the backside, but its minor.   Hoppy yet not biting, and has a slight fruity aspect to it too.   I can dig it!
3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 TBone (9414) - Pori, FINLAND - JUL 17, 2011
Swing-top bottle from Co-op Astoria
Hazy orange color, decent off-white head. Aroma has caramel, plum and alcohol. Medium-bodied. Caramelly, grainy. Bitterness in the aftertaste. Tastes like some obscure Belgian microbrewery ale. Not bad anyway.
2.7 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20 brianprentiss (620) - Portland, Oregon, USA - FEB 20, 2011
second beer I’ve had from Captured By Porches, not impressed with either. this one is rather blah, very little hop character, doesn’t taste at all like an ipa.
3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 3fourths (6400) - Boulder, Colorado, USA - FEB 5, 2011
swingtop bottle. tall patchy off-white head. amber body. soft yeast-driven aroma with fruity hop undertones: pillowy, dusty, minerallic mandarin orange and dried egg shell-scented pineapple. snappy and bitter pine resin hop flavor fades to caramel, maple and honey sweetness in the finish with a soft pineapple accent.
3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 TipsyMcStager (1065) - Calgary, Alberta, CANADA - OCT 4, 2010
Grapefruit/citrus aroma. pours a murky brown orange with huge foamy head. Really heavy on the citrus, overpowering really, the finish ends up being quite tart. The hops are still there. A strange one, but I didn’t mind it.
1 AROMA 1/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 1/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 4/20 philbertk (1848) - Seattle, Washington, USA - JUL 4, 2010
Captured By Porches Brewing Company--invasive species ipa--2010 25.4 oz. Bottle. 6.30% ABV. 70 IBU’s. (1.0 / 5.0) Huge foamy thin rocky mild lace off white head. Big tight sour sediment pellicle. Clear pretty bright rich orange gold color. Sour floral pine hop front. Tangy sour sweet fizzy fruity body. Sour citrus end. 2nd Bottle tastes better, and hints of a good IPA when fresh and bottled properly, but still dumped both. Sampled 7/4/2010. 2 @ $4.70 Each
3.4 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 dkingsella (147) - Portland, Oregon, USA - JUN 29, 2010
Served in a tulip...poured amber orange with a nice billowing white head. Some faint hoppy notes in the aroma. Nice hops upfront with pine and grapefruit both noticeable...following it became a bit flat and watery although not unpleasant by any means. Some malty notes come through in there somewhere, but this one really more of the West Coast take on the style with hops being more front and center. Finish is dry and lingering. Overall a pretty nice beer, but not the hop bomb I was looking for.
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 crackedmachine (301) - Seattle, Washington, USA - MAY 29, 2010
Pours orange-amber with a small white head. Pleasant herbal, slightly spicy hop aroma brings to mind summit hops. Flavor is at first spicy and bitter, quickly followed by plenty of malt, ending with a lingering bitterness. Flavor comes and goes quickly, and the finish is a bit watery but retains some mildly caustic bitterness. The aroma and taste, while clearly sticking to the NW IPA style, are pretty unique. Well worth a try.
