1.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 1/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 1/20 hershiser2 (1006) - Charlottesville, Virginia, USA - FEB 2, 2004
Paid $1.50 for a 12 oz single bottle.
Average golden yellow in color, but nice & soft fluffy white head.
I don't smell anything that resembles beer... this nose is full of ginger. Gets extra points for being interesting.
ACK, what did I just put in my mouth? This is beer? Tastes more like pop (or soda for you people who don't know the word pop). It's sweet, unbeerlike, and just gross. The only good here is the aftertaste, which is smooth and mellow...
This is disgusting, basically undrinkable. Save your time, your money, and your self respect, and pass this one by. I had to dump it out.

UPDATED: JUN 30, 2004 Before I tried this while in St. Thomas USVI, I knew that in the Caribbean they drank "Shandy's" which were a mix of soda, and a light lager beer. So maybe I wasn't expecting a "beer". Sweet, very soda-like, alcohol undetectable either as flavor or effects of. You couldn't stand drinking enough of this to get a buzz unless you're into drinking 32 oz cream sodas (or ginger ales). But as a Shandy, it's not bad. This beer needs to be in it's own style on rate beer. It's not a lager, that's just an ingredient!
Sweet, with ginger flavor, but not what you are used to drinking as Ginger Ale.

UPDATED: JUL 1, 2004 Update 17-Apr-2004 (Ginger) Overly sweet ginger ale. No head, looks and tastes like ginger ale. Pure crap in a bottle. Glad this is finally out of my fridge. Was a long mental battle after the red crap.

Ginger version: Fairly strong ginger in the nose, and candy sweetness. Definitely drinks and tastes like soda, not unlike a lower carbonation ginger-ale. no hop character. Honestly, I'd take it over a bud but at 1.2% it really isn't even a fair comparison.
The sorrel version is has less aroma and is not unlike a melted lollipop.

UPDATED: DEC 2, 2004 Caramel colour with a thin tan head. Aroma of ginger, sugars and a subtle fruityness. Light-bodied; Sweet flavour resembling ginger beer, caramel and caster sugar-nothing like a ’normal’ beer. Aftertaste clean and very sweet! Overall, a decent choice for the summer. I got this twelve ounce bottle at Total Wine in Chantilly, Virginia. Score for this variety: 6,3,5,1,7.

Ginger Version: Looks like ginger ale. Tastes like a greasy mix of ginger beer and a nasty lager. I dont know why I even tried this...Yucky...

I had the ginger version. It pours with a golden body topped by a thin white head with little lace. Strong ginger aroma with a slight Maltiness. Smells like ginger ale. Very sweet ginger flavor with some malty notes. Unlike any beer I've ever had. They might as well just make ginger ale, that's what this reminds me of anyway. Light bodied and, hey wow, sodalike on the tongue.

This beer was horrible. Sweet and creamy blend of their horrible lager and a cream soda. A bad cream soda. I wished I had never tried this. Too damned sweet. Odd flavor. Not at all good.

Ginger-ALE!!!! this comes in 2 flavors (that i’ve seen) Ginger and Sorrel (my mom says that sorrel is a weed that’s used medicinally - so this really is a health drink!). Can this really quallify as a lager?>? Better than any other ’malternative’ that i’ve tasted. The ginger is the better of the 2. Served ice cold, this could easily be mistaken for gingerale - you’d probably have to have the whole 6 before you got any hint of alc. - oh, i just noticed the content is 1.2%. The sorrel looks/tastes like ’red-pop’ (you know, Faygo or Fanta or whatever brand that is), also it had slight hints of cinnamon. I’m seriously thinking of putting some of this in a cooler and drinking it in the office......Absolutely delicious (as a soda pop).

Very gingery, as in ginger ale gingery. No actual ale to be detect, however. Hard to rate as I’ve never had anything like it before. Cool, in that it seemed seriously caribbean.
