UPDATED: MAY 6, 2010 The Black Labs! Canada’s salvation!!! So much better than LaBatt Blue, Molson or Moosehead! This is another college classic. I remember drinking these under a hot summer sun, thinking to myself, "It doesn’t get much better than this!" Alas, it does get better than this, and it’s called Blatz. Not bad though. If I could get this still, where I live, I would slam some down, to see if its taste is still the delight I remember from 15 years ago. If it wasn’t I would probably keep some on hand for the in-laws. (On a sidenote, I am able to get this again, and I reranked accordingly. "Get me a Black Label, Mabel!" and throw in a Blump too!).

Wow, I walked out of Woodman’s in Green Bay with a case of this for 7.99. It’s true, don’t even question it. With my first taste I felt the urge to scream, "Hey Mabel, Black Label. You would too, if you felt the extreme pleasure trickle down your throat and splash your liver like this stuff does. Granted it won’t drown you in ecstasy like Blatz, but darn close. Never give any to the neighborhood douche-bag, as it will make him look cool and sophisticated. Save this and your Blatz for close friends and the MILF next door. High times are here my friend, stock up on Black Label and enjoy the comfort and solace you’ll par-take on your next Black Label bender.

This is a very good beer. It pours a clear golden yello colour into the glass with very little head. The aroma has a malty, earthy aroma...nothing spectacular. The mouthfeel is silky smooth and crisp with some mild carbonation that grabs the tongue in all the right places. The taste is that of a full bodied beer with a malty grainy flavour that lasts through the entire glass. Like the majority of macro lagers in North America, this beer is best enjoyed cold.

As far as your budget beers go, really nice value for money. It has some body to it and you can taste the hops in the finish. I think it is the same formula it was in the 1970s and back in the red / black can. When Heileman was brewing it in the white cans, I didn’t think it was very good at all. Recommended for Joe Six Pack.

First of all, Black Label was born in Canada and later brewed under license by other brewers all over the world. The U.S. Black Label is quite different from its Canadian and British cousins. Different products in almost every country. The American version is now in the hands of Pabst. Still, for a very cheap beer, this is pretty good. Probably the best of the cheapest brews...and that includes natty light, Milwaukee’s Best, etc. I’ve found the hangovers aren’t as severe either so they must be doing something right. Mabel, another Black Label!

Great beer. I’m not a beer snob and I hate anything imported or heavy so this is a great beer for me. Ver similiar to Miller High Life in that it has a tangy taste. Drink after putting in fridge for a day..into freezer for 15-20 minutes and then into a frosted glass. Great beer for a refreshing cool down. Hard to find in VA so I get it from MD or PA. Can be found in VA in Newport News or in MD in Rockville.

Indeed this is a quality swill, and I’ll buy more in the future. This is the first BL I’ve had since the mid seventies (yeah, I’m THAT old), and damned if I didn’t find it a hell of a lot better now than then. Decent head, even a bit of lacing, colour is not special but the aroma is quite respectably hopped, and the taste/mouthfeel/aftertaste are all quite palatable. Cheers!

This beer has a very solid taste for its price range, rivaled in quality to price ratio only by the mythic Pabst Blue Ribbon. Hell, for $7 you can get yourself a 15-pack that provides more than enough ammo to get you through a solid drinking evening.
