Edition No. 2 - Bottled, limited edition special
Following the success of our first edition where we aged in American bourbon barrels, we decided to age our Leann Folláin in this second Edition for at least 90 days in Irish Whiskey barrels and conditioned in bottle to provide a gentle carbonation. During that time the dark chocolate flavours and well balanced bitterness of the stout combined with the essence of whiskey residing in the oak barrels. The finish is a sophisticated stout, rich and dark with the mild warmth of a smooth Irish whiskey.

Cerveza de color negro opaco con una espuma bronceado. Aroma a chocolate, malta tostada y roble. Sabor de chocolate, whisky, malta tostada y café, amargo y seco. Una cerveza negra compleja, profundo, pero bastante agradable.

Bottle @ EBBC14 [280614]
Pitch black, thin tan head, slight lacing
Aroma of dark toffee, smooth dark malts, chocolate, some whisky, woody, dab of soy
Taste as aroma, getting some red wine, soft chocolate, slightly soy, smooth malts, barrel aging is noticeable, not overdone
Palate - soft carb, medium body, quite sweet. Finish as main flavour, sweet dark malts.
Overall - I liked this, but prefer the standard Leann Follain (which I tried at the same time)

750ml bottle [edition no. 2, #1863 of 3300]. Jet black colour with small to average, frothy, half-way lasting, moderately lacing, beige head. Chocolately dark malty aroma, sweet-ish, hints of treacle. lovage, some roast and mocha, vanilla and leather BA overtones. Taste is dry, minimally tart, notes of leather, oak, slightly roasty, dark malty basis, some warming alcohol in the finish; sticky palate, oily texture, fine pored but quite lively carbonation. The evolution of flavours going along with the beer’s warm-up ends in the assimilation of (rather sweet-ish) aroma and (rather dry) taste, the indicated accomodations of +/- 0.1 points for taste resp. aroma cancel each other out, leaving the overall score intact. Sometimes I think there subsits a certain naďvety (or unwillingness) among British brewers to take part in this American Impy Stout game of demonstrating who’s got the biggest balls. As the competitive pressure is probably highest in this field, we mustn’t forget that we’ve still got a good beer in front of us.

Many thanks to erzengel for sharing! Pours a super dark brown with orange highlights and a small tan head. The smell is dark roasted malt, whiskey, vanilla, chocolate and coffee. The taste is as it smells with a dry toasty finish. The carbonation is mild and the body is light/medium but feels a bit watery going down.

Erzengel (4461) - Wuppertal, GERMANY - APR 16, 2014
edition No. 2, Bottle No. 1932 of 3300 The beer in the glass is dark, the nose is intense malty and stout-sourish great. The beer itself starts malty and dry. And heavy. The mainpart has wood in a great combination of the malty and dry-sourish stout-character. But not as deep as I hoped. The aftertaste is woody-stout-typical. Dark prunes, cherries and malty wood. But the aftertaste ends quite fast and is not that deep.
A great brew, but for such a beer I hoped to get something more deep and voluminous... --> 12/12/11/11
