Very nice pleasing reasonably deep dark roasry malts. Bright and slightly bitter hops are well integrated. Aroma is very easy-going. Flavorful quencher.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Tap. Poured mostly like a Guinness, very dark brown murky color, with cascading bubbles and a tan creamy head. Aroma of roasted coffee malt, with a bit of sulphur. Flavor was roasted malt, slightly tangy, with some smoky oak-chip notes. Thin to medium mix-gas ale palate which finished fairly dry. A nice change from Guinness where you can find it.

3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
500ml bottle. Very dark, near black, with small ruby highlights against the light. Aroma is of subtle coffee and roasted malt, and the flavour is similar, with a lingering bitter finish. Totally solid stout.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottled. Pitch dark color and nice creamy like head. Kind of like the great Guinness I thought. Aroma was licorice, and some smoky and roasted malt, coffee and chocolate. Medium to full bodied but a surprisingly smooth and pleasing taste in mouth. Slight bitter and every so lightly sweet finish. Very nice stout I thought.

2.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20
Sampled with Stegosaurus and Beerded_one at Newtown Beerfest. Black pour with white head. Good aroma of roasted malt with a hint of coffee. Had a bit of a sour flavor. It was ok.

Bottled. Quite similat to a Guinness in most respects, nothing to make this stand out from the crowd. A bit more experimentation would be welcome!

3.4 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
UPDATED: APR 5, 2007 As good as Guinness. I couldn’t tell the difference. Dark black color, and roasted malt flavor

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
UPDATED: JAN 17, 2007 Deep black in colour with a light brown coloured head. Aroma is roasty, of coffee and light chocolate. Flavour is very roasty, coffee, chocolate, all the stout regulars but this just seems a little light. Quite bitter.

3.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Bottle. Pours a very dark brown with a nice large fluffy tan head -- it looks the part but it’s slightly downhill from here. Aroma is sweet and malty, slightly roasty with some coffee and maybe some chocolate. Flavour’s...different, not what I expected. It’s somewhat watery, just a little roasty with some sweet malt and a dry bitter finish. Flavour could use more coffee and chocolate, as it is it doesn’t do much for me. Medium bodied, acidic mouthfeel. Looks great but the rest, not so much.

3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
UPDATED: DEC 10, 2006 500 ml bottle - pours deep, deep brown, almost black, with a thick mocha head. Aroma of roasted malts, black licorice and plums. Taste is similar to Guinness, but with more body and complexity, though the mouthfeel is still fairly thin. Short finish. I would take this over Guinness if it were available here year-round. Ultra-smooth and drinkable. Very tasty. A fine dry stout.
