This stout has a robust flavour with a ful bodied and smooth mouth feel. The roast flavours lead to a dry espresso like finish. A generous addition of fuggles hops lead to a tart bitterness which mingles with the roast espresso flavours on the tongue.

Filtered Bottle. Good aroma of roasted grain , slight astringent note, and some hop resin. A hint of malt sweetness on the pallet before a big dry chocolate character, fading to lots of roast barley astringency and hop bitterness. Very good dry stout , leaves the most famous one for dust.

Bottle courtesy a family friend visiting from Northern Ireland. Pitch black with an active but quickly fading tan head. Not much at all in the aroma - a bit of coffee but I really have to strain to even make that out. Taste of coffee but very bitter and a bit soapy. Palate a bit thin. I’m hoping that it just didn’t fare well on its journey across the pond.

Truly a great Irish Stout. Pours from the bottle dark brown/black that barely lets any light though, with a creamy head to top it all off. Aroma is deep and strong with hints of toasted chocolate and smoky earth. Goes down smooth with a touch of roasted coffee and a slight bitterness. Not quite the weak flavor of Guinness but less of a bite than Beamish. If only it wasn’t $10.00 a sixpack.

Pours black with some mahogany brown to it. Head is oatmeal colored, thick, long lasting and lace leaving. Aroma is chocolate and anise, smoky, different for a stout. Taste is also smoky, with smoked ham, chocolate, toffee, peat, wet mud, with some scotch in the aftertaste. Pretty good stout. Not my favorite, but enjoyable enough to knock back 4 or 5 pints at the bar.

Pretty pricey for a slightly above average beer. Slight sweetness, but really nothing that stood out for me.

Tap. Pours a typical stout - jet black with a creamy head. Aroma of chocolate and roasted malt. Taste weaker than a Guinness or a Murphy’s. Overall, just OK.

Cask-conditioned at the Cornubia, Bristol 17/07/07. Black coloured with a decent tan head. Aroma of bitter chocolate with some roasted notes. Very smooth to drink with more chocolate and coffee flavours and a long, dry finish. Very good.

Blacl, creamy head. Creamy roasted barley aroma. Full and smooth in the mouth. Rich roast taste, smooth and full. Burnt finish. Really tasty stout, even better than how I remember it.

500ml bottle.
Classic Irish dry stout. Thick dark black, and with a healthy tight head. Aroma pleasantly bitter and malty, but nothing exceptional. Taste is wonderfully dry, clearly discernable burnt barley, with a crisp bite. At 4.3%, can be drunk all night long.
