This stout has a robust flavour with a ful bodied and smooth mouth feel. The roast flavours lead to a dry espresso like finish. A generous addition of fuggles hops lead to a tart bitterness which mingles with the roast espresso flavours on the tongue.

thick creamy head with heavy lacings. rich malt flavour with very little sweetness. strong lasting taste of coffee and dark chocolate. a nice stout for sipping after a meal.

Totally opaque black. Earthy thick scent with lots of malt. Less spice then expected. Very pleasnat taste, lots of malts a bit herby and a bit flowery. Chives, caramel and dates. Sweeter aftertaste at first then a lingering almost curry like finish in the back of the throat. On of the best stouts I have had in a long time (could also be because it’s the first since I stopped smoking :) )

Drank in a stout glass. Nice thick sticky Creamy head. Aromas of nice roasted malts, chestnuts, thick butter, toast and a hint of butterscotch. Dry to the palate with flavors of buttered toast, roasted nuts, woody.... Nice bitterness to it... not realy sweet. Not bad.

Bottle: Poured a deep, light-defying black into the glass with a mocha colored 3 finger whipped cream cap that lasted and laces...all this without nitorgen!! Aroma: Dark roasty grains prevail, some nutty tones and light wet hay smells. Thick real malt spine, chewy buttery mouth feel and a roasty-crisp deportment. Up front you chew into black astringent malts...this goes to a butter-nutty decernament as it steeps on the tongue then the hops over take it and sent the drink into a sharp, dry finish. I don’t like dry Irish stouts but this one is about as good as they get...more to the original character of this ale before it was abominated by Guinness and nitrogen.

Tap. Another typical nitro stout. Weak aroma (thanks to the nitro) of roasted malts. Flavor very similar to Guinness but with the malts almost tasting burnt rather than just roasted. Overly thin palate for a stout.

50 cL bottle from LCBO. Pours a nice deep brown, opaque. Nose of smokey toffee, treacle, sweet, roasted aromas. A bit of molasses. Thin bodies, low carbonation. Very dry, slightly acidic, bitter finish that fades quickly. Some of the burnt-roasted malt comes through in the mouth. Not a style I’m big on. Given teh nose, I would prefer some sweetness when I drink it.

Very nice pleasing reasonably deep dark roasry malts. Bright and slightly bitter hops are well integrated. Aroma is very easy-going. Flavorful quencher.

Tap. Poured mostly like a Guinness, very dark brown murky color, with cascading bubbles and a tan creamy head. Aroma of roasted coffee malt, with a bit of sulphur. Flavor was roasted malt, slightly tangy, with some smoky oak-chip notes. Thin to medium mix-gas ale palate which finished fairly dry. A nice change from Guinness where you can find it.

500ml bottle. Very dark, near black, with small ruby highlights against the light. Aroma is of subtle coffee and roasted malt, and the flavour is similar, with a lingering bitter finish. Totally solid stout.
