3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
UPDATED: SEP 2, 2007 bottle from O’Neills. Blackish brown w. rocky tan head. Lovely full nose of nuts, granary bread, malts and caramel with a mettalic tinge. Taste to match, but it quickly turns to a sharp, bitter finish with some berry hints. Smooth thick body. Just ok.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
12 oz Bottle-Pours black w/almost no head. Wanted to have one of these on St. Paddys Day but I was a week late. Crisp clean flavor of licorice & roasted malt, not as much coffee & chocolate as some. Has a definite dry flavor like a smoked, w/just a touch of carbonation. A little different than some Stouts, but quite good.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Maybe should of given it a better rating seeing as how it’s a true Irish beer. Anyway, having this one on draft at Bodega Brew Pub, downtown La Crosse, Wis. Nice head, some lace, very dark, rich, nice body, Good beer in any case.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Pours almost black with a rich tan head. The aroma has toasted malts, licorice and coffee - quite dry. Medium body with a lot of spritzy carbonation - a bit excessive for a stout. The taste starts out with well toasted malt and coffee - quite crisp for a stout as well. The finish has some spice and then bitterness that stays around for a bit. Not bad, but a bit light and overpriced.

2.7 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
NorCal tasting Feb 07 - This one started the night out and I can’t really say it was a start to remember. A very minimal nose, nothing to grab your nostrils and shout SMELL ME, but what I could pick up was slightly earthy, and roasty. Appearance was a deep black, with a nice khaki colored two finger head with some staying power. Mouthfeel was a little on the watery side, but it was lively and carbonated. Flavors were earthy, slightly smoky and some hull astringency coming out. Also there was a roasted coffee flavor angle but it was more day old coffee grounds than something enticing. Really just an average, run of the mill stout.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Draft. Deep, black color with sustaining tan foam. Milky, light chocolate in scent and taste. Very thin, watery. Guiness-like without the heaviness.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle. Thick very deep brown colour with a big creamy mostly lasting light brown head leaving a good lacing. Aroma of roasted malts, chocolate and hops. Fresh smooth bit creamy flavour, good roasted malts, chocolate, bit liquorice. Dry roasty finish. A really tasty stout!

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
Black pour with frothy head. Roasted aroma. Roasted malt flavor with a velvety feel. This was in my beer fridge for a while before I tried, because I just didn’t think it would be that good. I was wrong, it is very good.

3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Found this one bottled in South Elgin, Illinois. Coal black pour with a nice, nutty nose, roasted almonds and chocolate throughout, taste petered out late. Not terrible.
