This stout has a robust flavour with a ful bodied and smooth mouth feel. The roast flavours lead to a dry espresso like finish. A generous addition of fuggles hops lead to a tart bitterness which mingles with the roast espresso flavours on the tongue.

Pour is black with a small tan head. Wow! Nice burnt roasty aroma. Flavor is a bitter burnt with a strong coffee aftertaste. A pleasing brew for all the senses.

Bottle 12oz - Pours black with a medium tan head. Roasty sweet aroma. Coffee and roasted malts dominate the flavor. On the palate this is actually a little watery for a stout. It did finish a little bitter though and I liked that. This was much like the other irish stouts I’ve had. Nothing fantastic but a drinkable brew.

UPDATED: MAY 23, 2005 Bottle…unfortunately…. great roasted nose…smells like oatmeal cookies to me…..medium dark….decent head….taste like improved Guinness to me. The bottom of the pint had a nice sweet malt to it balanced out with bitter roast. I would love to taste this on tap. Nice.

Deep tar black, topped with a creamy frothy one finger light brown head. Roasted coffee and sea salt aroma. Salty flavors continue, with roasted coffee. Dark and bitter, with chicory and some dusted chocolate. Oak and smoke show through. Palate is dry and a little bitter, with a bit of a sugary chokecherry finish.

UPDATED: JUN 13, 2005 (Bottle 50 cl) Pitch black with a rocky head which is amazingly stable. Very dry and burned with a pronounced bitterness. Nice and different stout. 260202

UPDATED: SEP 9, 2008 Bottle. Malty, roasted aroma. Almost black colour, red hue. Creamy light brown head. Slightly malty, roasted flavour with some bitterness and CO2 bite. Aftertaste is bitter with some harshness. Hint of chocolate. 6 3 5 3 11

Cask at GBBF08. Weak roasted aroma. Clear very dark brown colour. Good roasted flavour, turns a little malty and then roasted again. Light body, but OK flavour. 6 3 6 3 17

UPDATED: JUN 20, 2005 This is another beer purchased form The Caboose in Ashland, VA. The head formed quickly and was quite frothy. The color was a deep black and the aroma of coffee nuts. The added roasted barley was evident. The Stout had an excellent balence of sweetness. There was no bitter aftertaste. I liked it. I would look for this stout. It may not be as complex as other stouts but it was very drinkale for any occasion. Enjoyed another on June 19,2005 form the Tap at Capital Ale House for Father’s day. It was better from the tap than in bottle.

A great Stout! Fresh fresh fresh. No dry after taste. Suggest serving ice ice cold.

Aroma is roasty with lots of coffee notes. Hints of sweet coffee as well. A better aroma than the guinness extra stout. Dark dark mahogany color with touches of garnet color and a nice large frothy tan head with nice lacing. Identical to the Guinness. Quite roasty and assertive to start. Nice and flavorful roasts with chocolate undertones. Unfortunately, this finishes watery and thin. Flavor and aroma-wise, this is better than the guinness extra, but the mouthfeel is poorer.

Bottle: Thick black with a brown lacy head. Fruity, roasty aroma much like a mixture of fresh and roasted coffee beans (had to search for this though). Bitter, slightly roasty flavours that were generally overpowered by a metallic taste. I also found this somewhat overcarbonated. Thin flavour and uninspiring (will give it another go though to make sure it wasn’t the bottle).
