This stout has a robust flavour with a ful bodied and smooth mouth feel. The roast flavours lead to a dry espresso like finish. A generous addition of fuggles hops lead to a tart bitterness which mingles with the roast espresso flavours on the tongue.

UPDATED: NOV 24, 2004 A very pleasent surprise. Deep black in colour with big off white head. Taste is coffeelike with a bit of sweetness. Aftertaste is dominated by a lovely bitterness.

Gigantic beige head springs forth from black bodied brew. Aroma is roasty and slightly coffeelike. Flavour is likewise with some malt in it. Bit simplistic, it looks and tastes like a Guinness with a bit more flavour and a bit less body.

Pours a big, out-of-control beige head, looks a bit like soapwater and perhaps tastes a bit like it. Smells slightly vineous with dark coffee notes. Very dry and bitter as it warms. Too thin for my taste, but maybe I poured it too aggressively. If I was insane about Guinness, I'd probably enjoy (but pretend not to enjoy) this beer a lot. Good for the genre. It would go well with salty food.

Pitch black colour, it looks fine with it's off-white lace. Strong malt aroma. Quite bitter.

Very, Very dark brown with a big pillowy tan head. Not much of an aroma. Crisp for a stout. Soft chocolate, very mild coffee. Some Banana? Very Dry but has a nice balanced sweet undertone. Nice smokiness to the burp.

Deep black in colour with a light brown coloured head. Aroma is roasty, of coffee and light chocolate. Flavour is very roasty, coffee, chocolate, all the stout regulars but this just seems a little light. Finish with a long bitterness.

A middle-of-the-road stout. Nothing out of the ordinary and nothing overly offensive. It's got the basic roasted malts and coffee with a faint hint of chocolate now and then. Dry, bitter finish but not rich and creamy enough for my taste.

UPDATED: SEP 28, 2006 Rich creamy dark head. Smoke, hemp, and hoppy aroma. Smooth malt flavour with a nice accent of hops. Bittersweet finish. Interesting brew. Re-rated 2006-09-28 I’m sooo happy the LCBO has brought this beer back. One of my favorite stouts. Pours deep black with a cappuccino head. Very earthy taste; roasted cedar, toasted grains, hint of wheat, and floral notes from the hops. Hops also packs a nice bitter punch about halfway through and lingers on the tongue well after the finish. This is one damn fine beer. Cheers!

Tasted in Toronto from LCBO. Tasted in pint glass. Tasted at 10C. Never really heard of this beer. Showed up on the LCBO winter stouts collection, so here goes...Appearance is deep dark black, massive rich head, definite sign of flaked cereals/barley. Aroma is of smoke, tobacco, peat, and roasted malt. Taste and flavour is relatively smooth and fairly well balanced. Initially a slightly sweet / lactic taste emerges, then a counter-balance of roasted malt goodness, followed by a slight bitterness and finally (unfortunately?) ending in a slightly sweet finale.

UPDATED: APR 11, 2007 Weird, how did I forget this one? I even talk about it in other ratings. . .Well, 2002 and 2003 drafts have I sampled. Perfect pour, dark, thick rich creamy head. Even has a bit of roast and chocolate in it. Head is as good as the beer almost! deep deep chocolate vanilla liqueur sweetness, but mainly a dry roasty coffee/barley flavor. Big and tasty, it gets slightly sweeter in the middle and finishes with a chalky, mineral mouthfeel/flavor that I absolutely absolutely love. Screw guiness, I would drink this 10 times out of 10 over guiness.
