mdm46410 (613), Griffith, Indiana, USA Sep 8, 2008 On the nitro tap at Flossmoor Station and served in a shaker. This stout poured almost black with a thick, creamy nitro head that lasted throughout the entire glass. Thick, solid lacing covered the glass. The aroma of the beer was made up of light roast, coffee, and a hint of dark fruit. The flavor was lightly bitter and roasty. Just OK. The mouthfeel was creamy and smooth with ample carbonation. Finished slightly chalky. This stout looks the part, but the flavor just isn’t there.
DrDavid (487), Johnson, Vermont, USA Nov 28, 2008 (Bottle). Sweet malty aroma. Black body, beige head. Flavor is mild, roasty, well balanced. A little thin. Nice subtle finish. Far superior to Guinness. Glouglouburp (2113), Montreal, Quebec, Canada Nov 18, 2008 In short: A light and highly roasted stout. Basic session stout.
How: Bottle 0.5L, consumed fresh.
The look: Black body topped by a short lived tan head
In long: Big roasted nose of burnt toasts and roasted coffee beans. Body is a bit slim but pretty much what I expected from a below 5% stout. A good amount of highly roasted malts (borderline burnt) with that burnt toasts flavour and ashes flavour. A light astringency that seems to be due to lemony hops makes it feel even lighter than it already is. No fruity flavours to speak of and only a light cacao and coffee beans touch. Just roastiness and light astringency. After-taste of burnt something. Very simple, not very tasty, but still a nice little beer that goes down easy. Easy drinking beer ideal to get drunk, which is exactly what an beer like this should be, or any Irish beer for that matter.

o - I could it back with a few puzzl (1901), New York, New York, USA Oct 27, 2008 I was served this in a sampler at Flossmoor Station in place of their Irish Stout. They didn’t tell me that, though, and I entered the following rating for it. One of the brewers informed me that it was actually this though, which is actually rather humorous considering the rating I’d entered:

’’Nitro pour at the brewpub. Head is perfect on the pour. At least it looks the part. Lightly sweet, with a light roastiness in the aroma. Strong and unusual beet sugars are present in the flavor. Very light and thin overall, I guess a lot like Guinness, but jesus, not all dry stouts have to imitate that wreck. Some sweetness from the malt left in the flavor, and some oats. Very dull, I wish more brewers would beef up their dry stouts a bit and stop catering to the Guinness crowd. This is basically a clone of that. ’’ Spab (68), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Oct 26, 2008 Draught at the Beerbistro. Pours a rich dark brown with a large tan head. Roasty nose with coffee and chocolate. Notes of roast coffee, chocolate and a light malty sweetness in the flavour. Long, slightly bitter finish.
