daboskabouter (1470), Fergus, Ontario, Canada Nov 17, 2007 Dark, shiney red colour with a clingy lace and off-tan foamy head. The nose is fruity with malty hay-like notes and a bright citrusy hoppiness. The body is somewhat sweet at the front with a bright fruitiness in the middle. Citrusy and mildly bitter hops fill out the finish that lingers on the tongue for a time. Boutip (2334), Gatineau, Quebec, Canada Nov 14, 2007 Bottle: Poured a clear burgundy color ale with a big foamy head with average retention and minimal lacing. Aroma of medium sweet malt is somewhat bland. Taste is a mix between some medium sweet malt with some notes of caramel and mild fruity yeast. Body is about average with some average carbonation. robinvboyer (1419), Sturgeon Falls, Ontario, Canada Nov 12, 2007 500ml bottle. slightly hoppy aroma, and also slightly fruit, kinda sweet. Flavour tastes like caramel a bit.......withan odd cough syrup flavour. Meh, this isn’t geat. TheJester (694), Peterborough, Ontario, Canada Nov 11, 2007 500 mL bottle. Deep mahogany brown with a large but diminishing head. The moderate aroma is cara-malty sweet with a hint of cocoa powder and British hops. The taste is mild and slightly sweet, with a bitter, smoky finish. Not a lot going on. Body is thin and tinny. Nothing special. Tessic (439), Brantford, Ontario, Canada Nov 10, 2007 This ale poured a dark red colour with a tan rocky head. To the nose you could smell scents of sugary malts, beef gravy and caramel. First taste was thin and watery with flavours of very light malt and mineralized water. Slight metallic flavour, not bad but there. The finish is thin and malty but thats about it. Not bad but lacking in flavour depth. Ther palate is malt and thats it. Beer Snob (378), Ontario, Canada Nov 10, 2007 Some smokiness in the aroma. Red with a small fluffy head. Taste has an unfortunate metallic tang that diminishes the impression of the hops.
A tad thin as well.
Still, not too bad, just not worth the premium cost. gilvanblight (390), Windsor, Ontario, Canada Nov 9, 2007 Bought as Moling’s Traditional Celtic Beer at the LCBO in Windsor Ontario.
A nice deep brown pour with a light tan head. Head linger fluffy like for a long time. Scent of caramel and fruit with more then a hint of nuts. Very full bodied taste with a watery aftertaste. Quite the oposite of way too many beers. I expect more in the finish then the flavour, and this is the oposite. Rather nice actually. Caramel, malts with a bitter hop end. A lingering smokey aftertaste that doesn’t kick in until a few seconds after putting your pint down. A rather nice, smokey dark ale. pootzboy (1037), Hawgville, Ontario, Canada Nov 8, 2007 1/2 liter bottle
Decants a deep chestnut red...2 finger rich sticky cap lasts and laces well.
Aroma subtle earthy-nutty-malty..great nose to this one.
Good malt spine, slick mouth feel, mellow character.
Malty nutty flavor up front...no cloying, earthy hops and yeast tastes in the middle, finishes lightly drying with a smoky-nutty after taste.
Nice...not too many Irish red ales I take to but this one is sessionable and very tasty.
