jonwell (104), Huntington Beach, California, USA Sep 28, 2004 Picked this up at Mitchell & Sons in Dublin. Neat store. ANyway. Pours a nice looking read with a loose white head. Aroma is pretty fruity, slightly hoppy, with some molasses notes. Flavor is mellow, apple, strawberry, mild citrus, some roasted malt toward the end. Pretty interesting, just a bit bland. Very pleasant mouth feel, it’s a joy to drink, Revolution Red is by far the superior beer. jimhilt (1663), Bow, New Hampshire, USA Sep 25, 2004 Pours with a one-finger white head that fades slowly leaving a good lace. Clear red/amber color. Medium bodied and medium carbonation. Malty nose. Starts sweet and finishes with a slight bit of hoppiness. It is a different red, seems to be a mix of a red and a pale. $1.85 for a 12 oz bottle from Hoosick Street Discount Bev. Troy, NY. badgerben (3586), Blaine, Minnesota, USA Sep 5, 2004 Pours a nice, dark, ruby color with a medium brown head. Very malty aroma with a slightly spicy hint. Strong raw barley flavor with more spice rounded out with hops. Much better than I was expecting. Jeppe (2638), Ølbutikken, Denmark Sep 4, 2004 Pours a nice light tan head on a dark amber body. Slightly weak in the aroma, some malt, fruit and spices. Flavor of malt with an ok roasted tone. Little bit of hops and cheesy tones also. Well made but boring is an appropriate description! igel (196), New Mexico, USA Sep 2, 2004 Pours a bright red color and presents a good head that dies quickly (leaves a thin layer). A clingy lace maintains a presence throughout. The aroma is of malt and caramel – very fresh. Sweet on the uptake with a slightly dry finish that does not have much definition, but maintains a lingering roasted aftertaste. Mouth feel is smooth with some body and effervescence. A decent beer, but not a very memorable one. eczematic (1198), Sydney, Australia Aug 22, 2004 wel made but boring beer, no yeast character at all, just caramelly, toasty and slightly tangy. watery and forgettable. at least it’s not too sweet like most irish reds. Syd (888), Waconia, Minnesota, USA Aug 6, 2004 Bottle pours an attractive red with a decent head and lace all the way down. The aroma is of malt. The flavor is sweet, caramel, perhaps a bit of roasted barley, and some peat. The palate is refreshing. Overall, this is a nice surprise on sale for $.99 per bottle. jtw (942), farmington, Michigan, USA Aug 5, 2004 deep dark red. yucky aroma of metal and malt, with some sour hops. after a crappy smell i didn’t expect the taste to be as good as it was--balanced between caramel malts and light hops with a little bit of roastiness in the finish. a tad watery but enjoyable anyway.
