A distinct malt, fruity taste with an excellent caramel finish. Red ale is not my favorite style but this was pretty good and was much better than the far more well known Smithwick’s. | 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Mar 17, 2002 Nutty, somewhat fruity, and maybe even a little figgy. Rich, sugary sweetness. Some smoke in the finish, melded with some hop bitterness. Has some ’Red’ and ’Brown’ ale qualities. Not too bad, but tasted too sweet to have more than one or two. Delbomber (387), Philadelphia, USA

| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Jan 19, 2005 A very dark amber almost brown color. The head was huge. Aroma is a sweet and malty honey. Hints of apples and some nutmeg. The taste was drier than I thought it would be. There are some dry red wine notes. Also hints of apples and cinnamon. A trace of spice. A light and fluffy mouthfeel. A decent beer. madsberg (5152), Søborg, Denmark
