Bottle [500ml] shared with HogTownHarry & garthicus -- c/o garthicus. Pours black with ruby highlights and an average size diminishing creamy tan head. Aroma of coffee along with some chocolate, herbs, molasses and oddly, a hint of jalapeno. Flavour of roasted malt, coffee and chocolate. Average bodied. Pretty good.

Bottle @ Bull & Castle. Black and beautiful with yummy head. Dark malt dough and dark sugar, raisin and caramel. Soft and easy mouthfeel. Dry and smoky. Not roasty, not sweet. Banana-coffee nuances and a pleasant touch of acidity in the dry finish.

Bottled at L. Mulligan Grocer, Dublin. Ver yblack, rich head. Chocolate mud cake from nose to finish. Mid sweet with dense well rounded and well sized body. Plenty of licorice, notes of coffee and leather couch. Mildly warming finish with salty bitterness. A top stout with soft edges.

garthicus (2712) - Dublin, IRELAND - OCT 10, 2010
Bottle @ The Bull & Castle. Appearance: Pitch black, oily, small brown/yellow head. Aroma: lots of iron & rust up front, tons of dark fruit, raisins, plums, blueberries, quite a tart aroma with a dash of smoke in there too. Lovely. Flavour: Super bitter, lots of raisins, tangy copper, very decent alcoholic bite with a great smoke finish. Delicious. A real shining star amongst the Irish craft brew scene

What’s the matter, Craig?

What does it say on this jar?

"Craig."

Well I’m glad someone around here can read. The jar holds fourteen pickles. I had three yesterday, two for lunch today, and one and a half for snack. And now there are six and a half pickles in this jar. Simple math indicates...

Are you counting the one in your hand?

Ok, false alarm.

At a tasting, thanks Yuval, pours deep brown to black with a chocolate color head, aroma of raisins, cherries, liqurice, wood and cheesy notes, flavor is sour with some nice roasty notes, medium to light body, probably oxidized.

At a tasting, thanks Yuval, very little head, very dark brown colour, strong aromas of hay, barnyard, dark dried fruits and dark sour bread, flavour is very sour and unripe, some blue cheese, smokiness and chrred wood, very long and strong sour aftertaste with a nutty charred sensation. Strange but intriguing.

UPDATED: JUN 23, 2014 Re-rate 2/12: Bottle sample at a Stouts & Porters blind tasting at Sar HaMashkaot Ramat Gan. Black with a beige to light brown head. Aroma of chocolate and "green" notes. Sweetish roasty flavor, chocolaty. Medium-bodied. 6/4/7/4/13=3.4

Re-rate 7/29/11: Bottle. Black-colored with a lovely light brown head. Nice roasted malt aroma with coffee, some chocolate and light fruitiness. Sweetish roasty flavor with coffee and a drier finish with light acidity. Medium-bodied. A good Stout. Glad I tried it again. 7/4/7/3/14=3.5

Bottle sample at a tasting. Thanks to Yuval’s friend whose name I cannot remember at the moment. Black with a beige head. Aroma of thick chocolate and some dark fruit notes. Sweet-sour-bitter roasted flavor with malt, weird fruitiness, carob, coffee and yeast. Light-medium body. Aroma promises, flavor disappoints. A strange Stout. 7/3/5/3/10=2.8

Pours very dark brown with brown foam. Very carbonated - the main taste is of sharp bubbles! Drier than Guinness. Taste is closer to Guinness Extra, but it’s not too bitter, quite drinkable. Lies somewhere between the two.
