3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
At Epic Beer Fest 2013. Black with a thin beige head. Nose is like Guinness; roasty, a bit peaty, and earthy-dark-sweet. Flavor, unlike Guinness, is full and robust with lots of dark roastiness, peat, and a touch of dark bakers cocoa.

4.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Bottle. Pours a near-black color with a moderate tan head. Nose is extremely roasty with some coffee elements in there. Taste is also very roasty and just a tad bitter with some subtle cocoa on the back end. A little dry, but very tasty. Good stout.

2.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20
Head is initially average sized, frothy, brown, mostly lasting.
Body is dark brown to black.
Aroma is moderately malty (chocolate milk, cocoa powder, roasted grain, husks), lightly hoppy (herbs), with a note of vanilla.
Flavor is moderately sweet, lightly bitter.
Finish is lightly to moderately sweet, lightly to moderately bitter, slightly husky.
Medium body, watery/syrupy texture, lively carbonation.
Looks nice. The aroma is dominated by clunky chocolate, like Nestle Quik (was lactose added?), not very enticing at all. Not very good in the mouth either, where it’s syrupy sweet without much to balance. Clumsy and simple.

4.1 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 14/20
Really liking this one! The aroma is wham in your face; lots of toasted malt character with a coffee element as well. Pours a dark black with a tan pillowy head that fades to lacing that loves clinging to the pint glass. Taste is somewhat sweet with notes of chocolate, coffee, and especially toasted malt. Finishes exceptionally smooth and flavorful but with enough bitter dryness to prepare you for the next sip.
