Bottle @ Bull & Castle. Black and beautiful with yummy head. Dark malt dough and dark sugar, raisin and caramel. Soft and easy mouthfeel. Dry and smoky. Not roasty, not sweet. Banana-coffee nuances and a pleasant touch of acidity in the dry finish.

It’s been some years since I’ve had this beer and it had improved dramatically during that time. Sweet chocolate aroma. Woody flavour, sweet, chocolate, vanilla. Gentle carbonation and soft palate. Pretty tasty.

UPDATED: OCT 22, 2012 Ebony silky pour with a tan cap and lacing. Aromas of roasted malt, coffee, chocolate, peat and faint hint of vanilla. Initially sweet turning to bitter. Full bodied with good carbonation. Sweet from the malt, chocolate and vanilla, bitter from the coffee. Simples! ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

500ml bottle. Aroma is coffee and dark chocolate. Light dark fruits as well. Appearance is deep black with a nice brownish foam. Taste is light sour and sweet, malty. Has a full body and a soft carbonation. Overall a superb stout.

Pours a deep burnt umber with a big sticky eggshell foam... the nose is really inviting with nice chocolate brownie, mexican spice and lots of roasty goodness. The palate is smooth and creamy with enough bubbles to bring out the flavors... rich chocolate, soft spice, green coffee beans... nice balance witha touch of bitterness cutting through the finish. Tasty.

(Draught at Oliver Twist, Stockholm) Dark brown colour, almost black, with brief beige head. Roasted, malty nose with coffee, dark chocolate and black rye bread. Malty, roasted taste with notes of dark chocolate, coffee, a touch of liquorice, black rye bread and a generous cocoa bitterness in the finish. Medium body, fairly dry. Solid and well made stout. Very nice.

3rd rate Bottle from Centra, Mohill [060614] New label on bottle
Pitch black, huge fluffy frothy tan head. This was a really fresh bottle....smooth quite sweet chocolate, really good flavour this time, richer mouthfeel (medium bodied), certainly not thin at all and a really nice quite rich chocolate malt linger. It’s the best I’ve had....shame only 1 bottle left in the 10 euro Centra promotion......Going right up to 3.8

Bottle from Tesco, Longford [241113] 7/4/7/3/14
Aroma - Certainly getting more spicy hop in the aroma, softer malts, dark malts, will be fresher bottle this time
Taste - soft dark malts, some of that spicy hop again, soft roast, some smooth chocolate malts, getting that soft treacle taste, nowhere near as much, would like more of the flavour, seems too understated
Palate - It really needs more body, the thinness of the beer lets it down, little over carbonated
Overall - This was better than last time (which was an older bottle), but a few tweaks could make it so much better. Sticking at 3.5.

Rate #1500
Black, thin ruby edges, frothy tan head, some lacing
Aroma - Rich dark malts, smooth dark chocolate, smooth mellow roast, deep malts, dab of treacle, rich quite complex aroma
Taste - Smooth deep roast, plain dark chocolate, quite sweet dark malts, some treacle, soft coffee (6.5)
Palate - Soft carb, medium body but a bit thin, smooth texture. Finish as main flavour, smooth rich dark malts, soft roasted malts, but treacle linger becomes cloying after a while
Overall - Initially, very impressed with the aroma. Taste initially was good, but the body was a tad thin, then on the finish a rich, heavier, quite cloying dark malt treacle linger comes through. Unfortunately, the taste after drinking a few sips didn’t just quite much the excellent aroma and the cloying bit treacle flavour of the linger in the finish upset the balance of the beer. A bit flawed overall hence the lower overall mark

Bottled. A ĺitch black beer with a huge brown head. The aroma has notes of roasted malt, bread, and straw. The flavor is sweet with notes of straw, roasted malt, caramel, chocolate, and bread, leading to a bittter finish.

Bottle 50 cl. Pours dark brown in color with a tan head. Chocolate, roasted coffee, lots of dark vibes is present on the whole here in aroma. Creamy mouthfeel. Roasted malts, bitter chocolate and coffee notes in taste. Really smooth on the whole. Thick bitter chocolate in aftertaste. Great one.
