2.3 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20 Spiesy (2336) - Sydney, - MAY 2, 2004
Bottled, at the Sheraton Imperial, Kaula Lumpur. At the end of a long days travel back from Mabal Island in Sabah where we had been diving. I opened the mini bar fridge at a little past midnight to find Carls stocked in the fridge. A RATE, a cheeky little rate. The smile soon returned to my face even if the beer was complete crap. Pale yellow with plenty of fizzy, slightly dry but nothing else. No malt, no hops and not nearly as good as the bottled Carlsberg I’d been drinking in Mabal.
2.4 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20 TBone (9414) - Pori, FINLAND - FEB 25, 2006
Bottled @bar next to Carlsberg Sky Tower, Singapore
Pale yellow color, good creamy white head. Grassy, slightly skunky Saaz-type hops in the nose. Starts grassy hoppy, then turns sweet fruity malty - "normal Carlsberg". Malaysian Carlsberg’s effort to make German pilsener.
1.6 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 6/20 fiulijn (10383) - Como, ITALY - SEP 3, 2004
Bottle, Kuala Lumpur, with Mibsy Another Asian classic brew, watery, a bit sweet, not bitter enough: poor.
1.4 AROMA 2/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 5/20 Sully (1378) - Potts Point, New South Wales, AUSTRALIA - JUL 6, 2004
My son’s name is Carl. Pity that there wasn’t a better beer for him to have as a namesake. I have had this on tap at KL airport and in the bottle elsewhere. Both versions are typical of the bland lager nomally found in these tropical climes. Yeah, duff said .
1.3 AROMA 2/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 5/20 duff (5483) - St, Margarets, Greater London, ENGLAND - JUL 5, 2004
Bottle@Spiesys. Typical tropical lager, and typical Carlsberg lager (i.e-bland). Adjuncty, corny and grainy, pale and fizzy, thats should explain it well enough for you.
1.8 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 7/20 chriso (7065) - London, Greater London, ENGLAND - JUL 2, 2004
Beer # 19 at Spiesy’s. Basic adjunct laden tropical pale lager with a corny, grainy aroma and no hops, or ,indeed, interest in the flavour whatsoever. The best I can say is that, after a run of very strong US-made beers, this one wasn’t too bad as a palate cleanser and the mark probably reflects that to some extent. Water would have done the job just as well, mind.
1.3 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 3/20 SilkTork (4736) - Rochester, Kent, United Kingdom, WALES - JUN 28, 2004
Bottle @ Spiesy’s gaff. A maltyish, bad hop, muddled palate cleanser that fails at even doing that job right. Chemical nasty pale lager.
2.6 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 Ungstrup (23960) - Oamaru, NEW ZEALAND - AUG 21, 2003
A pale yellow beer with an OK head. The aroma is slightly malty with notes of straws. The flavor is slightly malty too from a good malt blend despite the color. It ends on a slight bitterness and has a good palate. An above average beer. I must say I was suprised of the quality and that it actually tasted of something.
