COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION

English: Carlsberg Elephant Beer is an amber-coloured beer with big intensity in its aroma, and with a distinct maltyness. There is notes of honey in the aroma. The palate of Carlsberg Elephant shows a good balance between a good body from the alcohol, and a discrete sweetness which is tamed by the sophisticated bitterness of the aftertaste.

I likes dis malt likker coz it gets me drunk quicker. Sorry ’bout that, but the poetic muse was upon me. This started with a solid, three-fingered foamy white head above a body of darkish gold. Things are okay so far. Shall we venture further? Aroma is a meld of hops and malt. Tastes, well, better than I’d expected with no shortage of malt. Mouthfeel was inoffensive, offsetting the rather "sharp" finish. Not as good as Crest Super Lager.

11.2 fl oz bottle purchased as part of a mix a six at Lukas in Overland Park, Kansas. 20901302 stamped on the bottle. Pour is clear golden yellow with a nice looking two inch white head. The head settled to about one inch, and then lasted long. Initially, quite a lot of carbonation bubbles, and then quickly went still. Aroma is initially strongly skunky, but that passes fast. Behind that is fairly muted toasted malt and some earthy floral hops. Once you are past the skunk, not a bad nose, just dull. Taste really took me by surprise, this was a nice looking beer with a benign nose - but the taste is immediate and quite off-putting. Get slightly vegetal maltiness, bitter floral hoppy - and chemical sweetness (think cheap coffee flavoring). And the booze, there is a lot of booze in this. The finish is dirty grassy. Palate is medium thin, watery, decent carbonation level. The finish is long, grassy and very hot. Fortunately, the finish has honey sweetness, that is only somewhat "industrial" tasting. The aroma and appearance of this beer really saved its score. Hey Matt, you should check this one out next time you need a Russian Lager flashback.

From tap: quite similar to the regular carlsberg, with some alcohol in the flavor and a bit more flavor with is still close to nothing, not horrible but still quite bad.

Draught, golden with medium off-white head, intense carbonation, aroma of vegetables, caramel, alcohol and some grass, flavor is mainly alcoholic with some malt mashrooms and bitter grassy finish. Medium to low body.

Bottle. Clear golden brown with foamy white head. Aroma of sweet malts, light booze and citrus. Flavor was yeast, spice, citrus. Decent for a malt liquor.

Golden pour with white head with a skunky aroma. Lacing! a 5 for sure. a hoppy bitter taste that I can’t but my finger on. But its not good. Real stale citrus? Last time for me with this one. Kind of reminded me of college and malt liquor.

I like carlsberg, but elephant is just not up to par. The stronger alcohol taste is only a minor issue.

Hardly any aroma - malty, if not skunky perhaps. Golden with little lasting head. The flavour is simultaneously sweet and bitter, but mostly sweet and malty. Taste of honey makes it sweet, Not complex. Fairly good, and the higher ABV is a plus.

12 ounce bottle - $1.79 at Total Wine & More in Kennesaw, Georgia. Appearance: Pours a clear, golden body with a frothy, fairly lasting, white head. Smell: Gah! Huge whiff of skunk even upon opening. Let me pay some bills online, get some laundry going and I’ll be back. ... Pils malts, vague touch of grains, and musky-scented hops. Taste: Faintly grainy pilsner malts with a fair amount of sweetness, though it dries up rather quickly. A few scant drops of peach and pear juice. Stir in a few corn cobs. Musky, earthy hops with a medium amount of bitterness. Pop of alcohol about midway through. Drying, lightly warming finish with some grainy and corny hints. Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied. Medium carbonation. Drinkability: A bland, vapid lager gifted with a bulky alcoholic character makes for a somewhat unpleasant drink. Skip it!

For a Euro malt liquor, it’s really pretty nice. I recall a time when this was consumed fairly regularly in my earlier drinking years, and I thought I was shittin’ in tall cotton because it was "imported". Heh...man I was dumb.

So I get this beer to relive old times and watch the Lakers lose to the Nuggets (w00t!), along with a few other oldies. The beer pours out a nice yellow-gold color, slightly darker than most malt liquors with a nice white head. Aroma is slightly skunked, sweet with a touch of grain/corn. Flavor is grainy, yeasty with a bit of sweetness too. Alcohol is pretty well hidden, until it gets warm. Then all hell breaks loose. Drink it before it gets warm.
