COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION

English: Carlsberg Elephant Beer is an amber-coloured beer with big intensity in its aroma, and with a distinct maltyness. There is notes of honey in the aroma. The palate of Carlsberg Elephant shows a good balance between a good body from the alcohol, and a discrete sweetness which is tamed by the sophisticated bitterness of the aftertaste.

THOUGHTS: Basically just an amped-up lager. Smelled bad just like most lagers but had a slightly nicer flavor although it was still a little harsh. TECHNICAL: Bottle. Poured a clear, medium yellow with a small to average, white head that kept a thin sheet. The aroma was light to moderate grain and straw, moderate grassy hops and light to moderate yeast. The initial flavor was lightly sweet and bitter and sour; while the finish was lightly to moderately sweet and moderately to heavily bitter and slightly sour with an average duration. The flavor was malt then metallic bitterness. The light to medium body was watery then a little dry with lightly tingly carbonation and a metallic finish.

This is really quite nice and more hoppy than expected. It is a somewhat deep, orangish gold with a medium white head that steadily dissipates to a thin foamy top. The aroma is grain with sweet fruity wine & alcohol, herbal and piney hops. The taste starts with a nice blend of toasty grain, sweet fruity wine, alcohol, and quite a bit of herbal and piney hop flavour, along with fairly good sweetness and bitterness. The hops flavours slowly weaken and blur, though, which is too bad, but traces of their flavour last as does the bitterness. It maintains a good sweet-bitter balance throughout and is a lot like a cross between a less refined good German pilsner and a high-ABV malt liquor.

Bottle. Slightly hazy gold with no head. Somewhat hoppy aroma, but nothing special. Medium body and carbonation. Flavour has some maltiness with prhaps a hint of fruit. There is a fairly strong alcohol taste and a longish somewhat bitter finish. It did not live up to my expectations (or long distant memories). It’s not bad, but disappointing.

Bottle 33cl. Pours blonde, straw with a firm white head. Hoppy nose. Moderately bitter, malty aroma. Not alcoholic, but quite strong apparently. Ok beer, weird style.

Pours a slightly haze straw color with bright white head. Aroma is actually decent for a euro, a much better blend of malt sweet smell and hops. Flavor is somewhat of what I expected, some decent malt backbone with typical euro hopping. Could be worse, but I don’t really enjoy the style. Alc content is actually better for the style I think and lends a little bit to the overall. Woo my first malt likkkaaa I have rated.

Meh, it’s a Carlsberg lager. I’m a little more sophisticated nowadays, this is a throwback to the kebab and fighting days of my youth. At least it’s quite strong, well done fella’s. Slight bitter aftertaste, alcohol for it’s strength and the style is not so noticeable and not shouting about itself. Which is a good thing. Then again, so were the kebab, slag fucking and fighting days of my youth. Ah good days, glad they are behind me though.

Reminds me of regular Carlsberg. Amber color with minimal head. Moderately bitter with a little malty followup. Suprisingly easy to drink for a 7.2 beer - doesn’t show the alcohol at all.
