Rating #512, bottle at the union
Well, even though this was one of the first beers I ever tried, even though it is probably the danish national beer, and even though I’ve been way to drunk in this brew way too many times, I’ve never really noticed all the facettes about it. So, when I was at a meeting in the union and Carlsberg Hof was served, I took the chance as I’d never buy this stuff by myself anymore. This is of course the standard danish bottled version at 4,6% ABV. Appearance is quite standard: Deep golden and with a somewhat lasting, bubbly head. The first dissapointment was the aroma. Allthough, I already at the time had realised that this wasn’t gonna blow me away in a mouth and tongue orgasm, I expected more from the aroma than this indistinct sour aroma that oozed from the glass. Luckily, the flavour was way better. This is actually a rather well-tasting pale lager. It starts out with the sourishness from the aroma, but then it actually shows some slightly traceable yeast and some rather obvious malts. In a way, these malts seems more roasted than in the usual standard lager, and the flavour all in all seems not as diluted as many other big commercial macrobrew brands. Finish is bitter hopped, but of course not more than making sure that it appeals to the hordes of beer drinking festival guests and random guys at couches in their living rooms. Palate is soft, but carbonation is a bit to strong for my liking, and thereupon the brew seems a bit watery. All in all a fair standard pils, no better than a lot of other brands, but absolutely not worse either.

Bottle at Hogan’s in Gainesville, FL. Drinkable, but nothing exciting about this one. Very typical Euro pale lager.
3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 11/20 MrHangover (342) - Den Haag, NETHERLANDS - APR 10, 2011
Carlsberg is best enjoyed in the original glass and chilled to 3°C. Drink it fast to prevent it from warming up and flatten. Being served from a draught is far out the best way to enjoy this beer.
2.6 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 13/20 HughConway (533) - Washington, USA - APR 7, 2011
Bottle. Pours gold, no head. Not really much to talk about, but better than a bud I guess
1.8 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 1/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 8/20 mattphilips (721) - Budapest, HUNGARY - APR 5, 2011
