Commercial Description:
Cerise is the name of the second offering in the Semper Ardens range of hand crafted beers brewed by Carlsberg in Denmark. The cherry beer was inspired by the wish to brew a beer using Danish fruit that would be milder and not as acidic in flavour as the traditional European fruit beers. Carlsberg's brewmaster Brit Bertram has created a strong beer with notes of the Danish Stevns cherry to accompany both fish and game dishes. The beer contains around 10% unsweetened cherry juice, together with a small amount of an alcoholic extract of cherries, including stones. The stones give the beer a faint aroma of almonds or marzipan. The hops used are a relatively new type called Simcoe from Yakima in the US. The hops have a slight citrus and fruit aroma while the dosage of hops is moderate, which balances well with the cherry's sweetness and acidity. The cherry juice and the dark caramel malt give the beer a beautiful red-gold colour.

(Bottle 70 cl) Beautiful reddish colour - just slightly paler than Beaujolais Nouveau. Small, slightly pink head. Very, very characteristic cherry in both aroma and flavour. Not sweet at all, but somehow still leaves a slight, cloying impression on me. 240501

[Vintage 2000 - 4 years old - tasted in the cellar of Carlsberg] The aroma is of cherries and wood. The color is brown with a fantastic orange head. The flavor is dry with dominated by cherries on a woody background. A fantastic experience.

Bottle #1682 & #1811 (vintage 2000) - Tasted in the cellar of the Carlsberg Brewery.
Hazy brown/cherry colored body with a creamy tan head. Malty aroma with berries in the background - somewhat syrupy. Flavor is strong malty and fruity (berries). Very thick and full-bodied. A nice beer and very vinous.
