1.2 AROMA 2/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 2/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 5/20
Bottled. Bronze colour, creamy head. Fruity alcholic malt liquor aroma. Sweet, mellow and raw, I struggle to detect the hops. This is Carlsberg Elephant in a fancy bottle!

Bottle. Citrusy aroma. Mild flavour, bonbon, hops, a little sweet. "Intense bitterness"? Not in this bottle.

2.3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20
Carlsberg discovered bitter hops! One should be carefull however not to overrate this beer just because it’s much better than Carlsberg’s other products

3 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Dark golden (orange) colour, off-white lasting head. Floral aroma. Moderately bitter, hoppy flavour with some underlying malty sweetness. Traces of melon, perhabs... Dry finish. Smooth (oily)palate. Judged as an IPA very disappointing, its not bitter enough. Judged by any other standard actually very good and well balanced. Still, the price of this brew is almost prohibitive.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
(700 ml bottle, bought in Denmark). Good to moderate head, deep golden colour. Nice floral and fruity aroma, tones of butterscotch and mild spices. Tastes like a very strong English bitter, the hoppy bitterness in the finish is there, but "intense" is not the word I’d use. The Semper Ardens Winter Rye is more like an IPA than this one. Decent enough, but there are better beers around.

2.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
Knowing Carlsberg and their fear of hops, I was quite sceptical of trying this so-called IPA.....Pours a fine off-white head on a clear light orange body. The aroma is actually all right, mostly sweet malty and caramelly but also slighly hoppy. The flavor is also acceptable, but calling this an IPA is a joke. Maybe a mild pale ale, but definately not an IPA. Malt is dominating with flowers and a weak tone of hops in the background. The price for a 70cl bottle of kr 50 ($8) for a mass-produced beer is absolutely ridiculous.....!!!

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 11/20
A golden beer with a nice head. Flavor of malt and hops. Unfortunately the taste is watery but quite sweet - too sweet for an IPA. A bit bitterness in the aftertaste, but too little.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
UPDATED: AUG 12, 2004 Golden, clear with a good head. As I expected, this is a very well balanced beer. I guess it will serve well as an introduction to IPA. I would still like some more hops, though, and like all Semper Ardens beers, it is MUCH too expensive.
