First Gold is named after a characteristic type of hops, which gives this new Semper Ardens en fresh spicy aroma marked by dry apricot and notes of light smokyness. The flavour finishes with a intense bitterness caused by the big dosage of hops, which is elegantly is balanced by the burtonised brewwater - water with the same salt and mineral composition as in the english Burton-on-Trent. The beer is brewed on english alemalt from Lothian & Borders at the border of England and Scotland. Togehter with a touch of caramelmalts this gives First Gold a light nuttybrown colour and a touch of nuts, which harmonize with the melonish fruitflavour. Enjoy the beer at 6 - 8 degree Celcius.

Pours a a clear amber with a white head. Low sweetness. Caramel and malt aromas. Dry. Boring hopsprofile a bit too dry, grassy and metal-like. Medium leaning towards light bodied. Medium carbonation. I don´t know, but it tastes a bit like a hopped up lager. I wonder if it is bottom fermented?

(Bottle at Carlsberg Visitors Center, Copenhagen, 18 May) Amber colour with firm, white head. Malty sweetish nose with syrup and honey. Malty, sweet taste with caramel and honey. A bit too sweet and sticky. And shouldn’t there be hops in an IPA?

66 cL bottle. Pours golden, filtered with a huge head. Aroma is dry fruity hops. Flavour is spicy, notes of nuts. Has a sweet malt base with a simple hop blend on top. Buttery mouthfeel and taste, yeast provides a touch of barnyard. Lacks more hops to be a really good ipa. Finish is rather short.

UPDATED: OCT 5, 2007 Re-Rate: 04-10-2007 Bottle @ Jacobsen Brewhouse. Large off-white fizzy head that mostly diminished. Clear light sparkling body with an amber color. Good display of lacework. Aroma of pine, citrus, elderflower, apricot, grain and caramel. Some underlying sweet fruity notes as well. Medium bodied with a dry texture and an average carbonation. Moderated bitter and sweet flavor. Light dry and bitter finish. 3-6-6-3-10 Wow same total score as last time....strange!

Bottle. Average fizzy white head that mostly diminished. Spare lacing. Amber color. Light notes of pine, grapefruit, liquorish, caramel. Light to medium bodied with an average carbonation. Flavor was quit sweet for an IPA, with some balancing bitter notes. Finish is quit liquorish sweet.

Pours light amber yellow with a receding head. So-so aroma, nice hoppy and honey sweet flavour. Not as hopped as I’d expect from an IPA. Just above average.

Nice head and amber color. The aroma has notes of fruit and caramel. the flavour is smooth with notes of aroma hops, caramel, flowers and fruit. There is a brief sweetness right before the finish, that only has a moderate bitterness. It should be far more bitter, perhaps for a IPA beginner.

Slight hoppy aroma, flavour is light on hops and malt. Not too much of an IPA. Might qualify for a mild, but it’s too strong...

Bottle.66cl. Not the best Ipa ever made but ok, nice. Small head, soft hoppy aroma, and it is not USA hop´s, that is nice.
