Okay, I’ve been living in Oz for 6 months and I’ve come to realize that each of the big brewers has a version of the "Premium Lager", the top selling of which are Cascade, Boag’s, Hahn, and Crown. In my opinion, only the first two have anything to offer over the many other cheaper mass-marketed pale lagers. Of these two, I prefer Cascade because it has more of a hoppy palate and dry finish, but Boag’s Premium is nice too. Hahn Premium and Crown Lager (by Carlton) are both entirely average, and in a blind taste test I’m not sure I could tell them apart from other average pale lagers out there, such as Fosters, Toohey’s New, and the like.

Bottled. Pale golden with a white, short head. A bit malty, pungent aroma. Too much carbonation hiding some sweetish leader-flavour.

Bottled. Golden. A little sweetish malt aroma. Flavour is decent malty. Carbonation takes over. A beer...

Standard looking pale lager with a light dry aroma and quite a dry aroma. Overall a very plain beer.

Sample from 330 ml bottle, as Crown Lager, at the Brewery International stand, Smak 09. ABV is 4.9%. Golden colour, low head. Fruity aroma. Fairly fruity and zesty flavour, some estery sidenotes, low bitterness. Not a great beer, but drinkable.

SledgeJr (3577) - Omaha, Nebraska, USA - SEP 22, 2006
In the bottle at the Paging Harry Bar in the Sydney Airport. More floral and bittering hop aroma than many pale lagers in Oz. Golden yellow with a medium white head. lacing was fairly mundane and the finish a quick, but decent bitter dryness.

Pours a nice light golden yellow. Aromas of hops, grass, and maybe corn. Taste is crisp with a nice mellow hop flavor.

Bottle. Gold colour, moderate head and condition. Some malt in the aroma, watery in the mouth with a creeping bitterness into the finish.
