COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Carlton Draught is one of Australia's biggest selling tap beers. This traditional full strength lager, available nationally, is renowned for delivering "brewery fresh" taste. Carlton Draught provides a crisp mid-palate flavour which is balanced with a clean hop bitterness and a slightly dry finish.

Easy enough to drink but nothing spectacular. Save this beer for getting tipsy before a footy game, even then there are usually better options on tap.

Bottle and tap. Ordinary beer, not much going on in malt and hops department. But would choose over VB or NEW. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

12/V/2012 - 355ml bottle @ Joyce’s place - BB: 1[*$£%]12 (print was unclear, so really, I have no clue) (2012-490) Thanks to Thomas and Annelies for the bottle!

Clear light orange beer, small bubbly head, unstable, non adhesive. Pretty viscose looking while pouring. Aroma: pretty malty, grains, nutty, toast or bread. MF: ok carbon, light body. Taste: grains, little fruity, bitter hops. Aftertaste: grassy bitter hops. There’s not much in this one.

Probably the best out of the ’easy to get/cheap’ beers in Australia (its not overally cheap considering) however its still one I try to stay away from. When drinking it you can almost taste some caramel but other than that its a very bad beer.

UPDATED: APR 17, 2012 Very little to say about this. Weak malt aroma, weak malt taste. Rubbish. About the same as every Australian macro beer.

when was growing up (in Sydney in the 70s) we only had about a dozen beers to choose from. i didn’t know any better. i remember the first time my Dad brought home a six pack of carlton draught. it was in a white can, with a cerulean symbol and a picture of a glass of golden beer. i remember thinking it was by far the best beer i had ever tasted. now that i know a bit more, i know that i like the "diacetyl" taste that is prominent in this beer. i still find it lively, refreshing and reminiscent of those "heady" days of youth, university, young women, lebanese restaurants (all you could eat for $2) etc.

Bottle. Pours a golden yellow with no head. Smell is of wet hay with skunky factor. Taste is initially sweet with more hay and extremely lively carbonation. I think someone told me this is simply the Aussie domestic version of the exported Fosters. I believe it. Was good at the AFL game but not the second time I had it. Just goes to show you atmosphere has a lot to do with the feelings on a beer.

I consider this the best of the worst for mainstream major brewery beers in Australia, and it’s still not great. Dough/bready aroma and taste, verging on going mouldy. If someone made a cheap "Beer Essence" (think Vanilla Essence) this is what it’d taste like. Cheap, bland, easily reproduced.

Not very good. And for $45 a case its laughable that anyone would buy it, let alone be able to drink a case
