(375 ml can from a friend brought it from Australia) Label sais "Carlton Mid Bitter Beer" and sais it’s double hopped. Golden to amber color, white head. MAlty a bit fruity scent. Malty sweet taste. Medium bitterness. I was expecting more bitterness, more taste, darker color, well, just more I guess.

Pale bronze colour with small white head, sweet malty hop aroma, sweet hoppy flavour. Yeap is CUB mass produced beer.

Tasted 06/10/2006. Stubbie from Brisbane International Airport’s outgoing lounge. I asked the woman behind the bar to recommend me a beer. She replied, quite fairly, that everyone wanted Heineken and she had no idea what any of the rest of them tasted like. This one is a classic, sweet, deep gold lager with a slight apple quality. Not offensive to the palate but it certainly is to the brewer within me. "Double Hopped" must mean two pellets. Need I say more?

375ml bottle. I love the new logo with the horses... somehow this beer now tastes better than it used to! Smells good, tastes good and goes down like a treat. You can’t tell it is a midstrength by the taste. It really has a full bodied taste as they promote. Easy on the head which is good. No nasty hangovers from this one. I’m a fan. Can’t see what all the fuss is about how bad CUB beers are... except carlton cold of course. Thats just awful stuff!

In the bottle. This label now is called simply "Mid" and not midstrength. Claims to be double hopped. Pours gold with a medium poofy head of fairly big bubbles. Has a strong adjunct aroma. Does have a stronger hoppiness than most Oz beer. The finish is a bit lemony. Body is not much up front, but I like how the beer finishes.

Nicko (191) - Ashfield, AUSTRALIA - SEP 14, 2006
Light golden, bubbly with frothy head. Standard CUB aromas plus more grass clippings if that is possible. More bitterer ! than others in the range. Unpleasant newspaper aftertaste. A ho-hum "midrange" effort, LC Rogers being the benchmark.

This is a decent beer at a very affordable price, mainly found in Queensland, which is an Aussie province north of Sydney and Melbourne.

There was good news recently: the arse is falling out of the Australian low-alcohol beer market; the bad news was that drinkers are moving on to mid-strength brews like this. Which presumably is why Carlton hs been throwing so many advertising dollars at that dimwitted Male Intelligence Division campaign. This has the standard CUB sugary sweet aroma - boiled lollies, grassy hops, plus a whiff of sulphur. It has that hard CUB mouthfeel and aggressive carbonation. It’s not big on flavour but to be fair, it’s not as actively nasty as most CUB brews. Citric hops, low bitterness and a dry finish. It has the sweetness of VB but avoids the wet dog and metallic hops. Better than expected. (375ml bottle; bb 4/9/06)
