Chemical looking pineapply syrup concoction. Awful flay acidic brew. Nasty. Not a Hoegaarden.

Had on tap at the Paragon. I bought it on a whim, not expecting much but was a little bit surprised. I enjoyed it. It wasn’t a world class beer and maybe it was the ambiance and the company, but enjoyable still.

Bottle - pours hazy yellow with white head. Some citrus and perhaps a touch of ginger. Very light citrus . Slightly dry with a fizzy mouth feel.

Pours cloudy pale amber with a small head. Nose shows grassy hops, faint sweet citrus, distinct coriander and an over-riding vegetal character. More coriander as a flavour, a bit over the top. Some citrus too. Other than that there’s not much going on, pretty weak flavoured, pretty much no bitterness. Too much carbonation, very watery body.

355ml bottle. Hazy with an apricot colour and a deep snow white head, looks better than expected. Mild citrus and melon aroma that is sweet in the nose. Flavour lets it down a bit but this is no surprise .

On tap. Not too bad. Aroma is intensely citrusy. Taste is sweet and short-lived. Palate is thin and watery. Pale, with a frothy lasting head.

Bought as an experiment. The pour is surprisingly inviting - a pale, cloudy straw yellow with a bubbly white head, just like a real wit. That’s about where the compliments end though. The coriander is overdone and becomes unbearable as it warms. The trademark Carlton yeast leaves a nasty finish, exacerbated by the citrus and spices. Slippery mouthfeel and too much carbonation. Couldn’t finish it. A mishandled faux-wit attempt.

Not expecting much as the product description has ’White lager’, ’translucent gold’ and ’lower carbohydrate’ as selling points - the same three things I don’t look for in a Witbier. I think the advertising team can be replaced as it produces a cloudy, straw yellow with fine, tight carbonation and a compact, creamy snow-white head atop that lasts the distance. The appearance has merit, it even has a thin pack of yeast (?) at the base of the bottle. Subtle, clean aroma of fizz whizz and lemon sherbet. Nothing exciting there. Ugh, first sip just bought visions of Carlton Dry with a slice of lemon added. Creamy in feel yet leaching of CO2. Very thin and watery, trails off soapy and slick. Tastes of detergents and little else. I keep doing this to myself, why!?? (35,5cL, no date stamp, Thirsty Camel Butler)
