Brown body. Nice, malty aroma with dry roasted malts. Fainlty sweet body, with a malty body and a dry finish. I’ll admit to being terrified at the twist top, but this I’d buy again.
3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 burleybrew (4) - - NOV 10, 2011 does not count
This is one of my old highschool "gateway" beers & got to taste it again today. It is a solid stout with good aroma, a bit on the sweet side maybe from crystal malts, with a slightly hot finish from the alcohol. I would buy this again. Good, but not great.

Really like this brew. The consistency of guinness. Very creamy. Was not expecting much from an Carlton, but this is a quality brew!
3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 IrishBoy (3335) - Bakersfield, California, USA - AUG 12, 2011
1pt 9.4 oz bottle from Safeway Salinas. Nose is chocolate with some tobacco, a little licorice and a sweet maple note. Clear, very dark brown with a big tan head. Flavor is tobacco, smoke, and chocolate. Absolutely fantastic for a $2.99 import.
3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20 joeneugs (1600) - Livermore, California, USA - AUG 1, 2011
Pours very dark brown with a very nice tan head. The aroma has notes of cocoa powder, milk chocolate, and coffee. The flavor is pretty hoppy and roasted with a distinct mineral presence. The body is medium with a very bitter/roasted aftertaste. Some chocolate and coffee in there as well. Lots of flavor in this one. I liked it.
3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 13/20 TheRealMGD (385) - Lakewood, Washington, USA - JUL 24, 2011
25.4 ’Oz’ bottle. Black pour, tan head, chocolate and coffee nose, with some tartness creeping in. Too bitter/coffee for me, but some may like this. I much prefer the slightly sweeter licorice and chocolate flavors of Coopers Extra Stout (among Aussie Stouts). Thin body hurts this one, could use more mouth feel. Fades to a salty clean finish.
3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 bpreo (992) - Eugene, Oregon, USA - JUL 10, 2011
Sorry to say this is one of the lesser Stouts I have still enjoyed. Light on flavor.
