3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Pours thick to a brown black color with a thick, creamy head that holds. The palate is roasty and chocolatey, Reminds me of chocolaty espresso. Fantastic roasty hoppy bitterness.

750ml bottle with a screw top, thanks to caterwaul. Sticker says $4.29. Wow..! Sticker says best before 14/mar... 2015??? How is this possible? They must give this beer, at least, a 2 year shelf life. Pretty generous. Why even print that? How long do these classically sit for? Near pitch black color. Thin light brown head. Dots, little bits of lace. Moderate dark chocolate, roast, some ashiness. Kind of sweet, metallic taste. Taste’s a little big and heavy for just 5.7%... Not sure if that’s a good or bad thing. Dark fruity taste. Moderate sweet. Light tart. Probably a little older. But it’s held up incredibly well for a what I think must be a 1-2 yr old beer. A lot better and more flavorful than expected.

2.4 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20
Pours cola with reddish tinges & decent head. Smells of instant coffee, Vegemite, chocolate, Jif kitchen cleaner. Taste is a bit better but has a metallic taste & that Jif aftertaste (or what I imagine it would taste like). Otherwise, reasonably sweet & standard stout taste. Fairly thin mouthfeel and not creamy like most good stouts. Drinkable but not great.

Non-descript, minimally roasted malts. Black with no head. Bland, boring, forgettable.

Pours black as expected, with thin beige foamy head. Aroma is burnt and chocolaty. Taste is dark roasted malt and chocolate. Lingering bitterness on the palate. Nice!

2.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20
This beer comes relatively well rated considering its very humble, old fashioned background. There are pleasing elements of chocolate and hops but in a beer club stout night it failed to register much approval due to a relatively watery consistency and overall lack of interest factor.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
750 ml bottle to pint (shared with the Mrs.). Looks good; a dark and fairly opaque cola with thin beige. Head that dissipates into lacing fairly quickly. Smells of dark malt and roast with a touch of chocolate and oxidization. Tastes like it smells, only more robust, and with a touch of pleasant sourness. Average on the palate. Not too shabby, especially for the price.
NOTE: Drink cold! I enjoyed it less as it warmed, and split the difference in my quantitative review.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
375ml bottle. Black brown colour, thick foamy tan head leaving some lacing and aroma of roasted malt, dark fruits, slightly sour. Taste is sweetish, roast malt, coffee, chocolate, with alittle bitterness. Smooth mouthfeel, light to medium bodied, medium carbonation, some residual sweetness. Quite OK.

2.7 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
Bottle. Pours a near black color with a moderate tan head on it. Nose is a little sour, almost, and a little bit roasting to it. Taste has just a hint of sourness to it with the roasting coming through a little later. This is probably my least favorite of the stout family, but it’s still drinkable.
