1pt 9.4 oz bottle from Safeway Salinas. Nose is chocolate with some tobacco, a little licorice and a sweet maple note. Clear, very dark brown with a big tan head. Flavor is tobacco, smoke, and chocolate. Absolutely fantastic for a $2.99 import.

[1740-20081002] 1pt9.4floz bottle. Roasted coffee malt aroma hints at mild acidity somehow. Black body with a medium-lasting creamy brown head. Mild cocoa coffee malt flavour has a mild plastic finish. Full body has a nice after-tang. Nice finish, not bad.

Really like this brew. The consistency of guinness. Very creamy. Was not expecting much from an Carlton, but this is a quality brew!

Aroma is heavily roasted malt forward; very coffeelike with chocolate, black patent and light fruit. Appearance is deep brown with a persistent tan head. Flavor is fruity roast malt forward with a sweet roast finish. There is no hop character and moderate bittering. Mouthfeel is medium/high bodied with a strong roast texture and light warmth. Overall, good complexity and a fun beer to drink.

27 oz. bottle. Pours black with a very dark head (the head is as dark as the milk in the remnants of a bowl of Count Chocula). The smell was similar to Kahlua--very sweet molasses base with some coffee notes. The aroma is intense. The taste was a rich burnt chocolate. The finish was a little like a red wine--it was bitter and the flavors really stood out. This is well worth the $2.99 for the 27 oz. bottle. I buy one of these several times a year. Well done.

Pours very dark brown with a very nice tan head. The aroma has notes of cocoa powder, milk chocolate, and coffee. The flavor is pretty hoppy and roasted with a distinct mineral presence. The body is medium with a very bitter/roasted aftertaste. Some chocolate and coffee in there as well. Lots of flavor in this one. I liked it.

375ml bottle. Hard to believe that this is from CUB, their best offering by far. Looks strong and mighty when poured with a thickness and deep black colour to be proud of. Coffee coloured thinnish head and an aroma of chocolate is pleasing and gives some aniticipation as to what the flavour might be. Flavour does not disappoint wioth a tongue curling thickness and mellow sweet chocolate coming through.

Always loved this big bottle of stout with a very basic label. Always $3 or less when I find it, it never disappoints . A great all around Australian stout. Nice and bitter with roasted malts and a lot of chocolate flavor. I wish it was easier to find.

Twist-off 750ml bottle best before July 11, of what year though? Pours a very dark/dense brown/black with hues of red on the extreme edges. The head is big, fluffy and brown/grey/tan. The smell is pretty entertaining actually, it has that sweet milk chocolate scent, but also a hint of cinnamon sugar and coffee. I smells like a churro dipped in fudge and rolled in coffee. The taste predictably is a let down, though not by that much, it is still pretty decent. It is chocolaty with a hint of roastiness. It comes of flavor wise like a slightly sweeter irish dry stout, though this blows a crappy dry stout out of the water. Like a dry stout though it is slightly watery but with a dry finish. It is good for what it is, it was pretty cheap too, like an austrialian 40oz lol. Makes me wonder how Guinness still sells. Serving type: bottle Reviewed on: 07-21-2010 23:13:19

750 mL bottle. Pours black with a medium tan head and nice lacing. The aroma is nice milk chocolate, oak, earthy notes, and lots of roasted malts. The flavor is very sweet and roasty. The palate is heavy, syrupy, and smooth. The aftertaste is mildly bitter, and a little alcohol burning. Overall, this is an excellent stout. Well balanced and great flavor.
