MBison (348), Southern Highlands, Australia Jul 15, 2008 Bottle (375ml). I used to drink this quite regularly a few years back, it was one of the first stout’s I really got into, and all these years latter it still impresses. Poured black with a large, thick, fluffy, light-brown head which lasted well. Toasty aroma with roasted chocolate malts, licorice, coffee, sweet caramel and some nuts. Flavor was a light burnt bitterness with roasted chocolate malts, caramel, licorice, black coffee with bitter chocolate in the finish. Medium bodied with medium carbonation, a dry mouthfeel and a good finish. tedovertu (82), Apple Valley, Minnesota, USA Jul 5, 2008 Bottle, Large rocky light brown head. Good lacing. Dark pitch black color. Aroma of chocolate and burnt coffee. Full creamy body with average carbonation. Bitter finish. Better than the running average of 3.15. bhensonb (2731), Woodland, California, USA Jun 30, 2008 750 ml bottle from Bottle Trek. Dark brown/black color with a reasonable tan head. Toasted, but not burnt, malt aroma. Rather thin bodied with moderate carbonation. Flavor is slightly sour toasted malt, with coffee, chocolate and a touch of dark fruit. Maybe toffee. Finish is rather bitter and dry. Decent drink. chokmah33 (88), Bremerton, Washington, USA Jun 28, 2008 Aroma of french roasted coffee along with deeply burnt smoky malts.
Creamy chocolate undertones. Slight plum fruitiness, and a hint of roasted root vegetable round out the aroma.
Mild chocolate, molasses, coffee, and woodsy hickory smoke flavors. Meaty tasting malts, a milky undercurrent. Slighlty sour, a hint of hops perhaps?? Suprising good tasting.
Mild palate, velvety texture. Finishes dry, like bittersweet chocolate.
A decent, widely available stout. brianprentiss (385), Mountain View, California, USA Jun 7, 2008 Very very black, like tar. Small head with some lacing. Tastes of raisins, toffee, and metal. It’s pretty drinkable and enjoyable, but it could be a lot better.
