3.2 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 Narnad (1136) - Wonder Lake, Illinois, USA - JAN 9, 2011
Arrived with a very dense, tall, creamy, off-white head with a slightly hazy copper body underneath. Modest caramel sweetness (not overpowering) and a modest citrus presence. Flavor starts off with a mild caramel and toasted malt note, lemon zest citrus middle and finishes with a light grassy taste. Modest density to the brew with a slight watery texture. Overall an okay brew by Carlyle. Definitely drinkable. Slight water feeling creates a little less fun for the tongue.
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20 boto (1548) - Granby, Connecticut, USA - SEP 28, 2005
Draught @ brewpub: This one poured a somewhat orangish-amber color with a bit of a head. There was also a decent bit of lacing. The aroma is fairly decent, with a good bit of grapefruit and pine hops. Decent malt body with a bit of a malt kick. This almost treads into the IPA range.
4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 TheDean (785) - MIlwaukee, Wisconsin, USA - SEP 11, 2004
Sampled at Great Taste of the Midwest. Usually not a fan or APA?s, but this one was quite good, according to my, by this time, hard-to-read notes.
2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 muzzlehatch (4425) - Burlington, Vermont, USA - JUL 2, 2004
Dark, hazy copper-amber; bright, leafy, pungent aroma. Fairly bitter throughout, a bit bland overall...fairly rough and unstructured, but still somewhat likable. The quality is there, it’s just not well put together. Some grapefruit wafts late.
3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 15/20 ElGaucho (1816) - Minnetonka, Minnesota, USA - JUN 23, 2004
Hoppy aroma with a slightly sour aftertaste. Reddish amber color with an off-white head. Excellent lace. Hoppy, but slightly thin. Somewhat like a cask. Sampled on draught at the 9th annual Prairie Rock Brewfest in Elgin, IL.
3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 Rupp (13) - Illinois, USA - APR 25, 2004
Amber colored, good hop nose, very low malt aroma, some caramel. Body is a little thin for my preference to balance hops, but still within style, has a good mix of malt and hops in taste, and finishes on the bitter side, but can be a little too carbonated at times, which makes for a thinner mouthfeel. Still a very good APA.
3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 Terminus (2535) - Las Cruces, New Mexico, USA - JAN 7, 2004
On tap at brewpub-This is my fav beer from this place, which is located in my hometown. I had a chance to visit this place on 1/3/04 and sampled what they had on tap at the time. This beer poured a nice deep orange appearance with nice lacing all around the glass. very piney/sweet hops in the aroma. good stiff bitterness, somewhat like gin. lots of grapefruit in the flavor.
4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20 JMerritt (1568) - Macomb, Illinois, USA - DEC 27, 2003
Orange red with a small white head. Big Cascade hop aroma that is somewhat spicy. Citric hop profile is moderately large, and the underlying malt is light but noticeable, expecially in the immediate aftertaste. A very full mouthfeel. Piney and delicious.
