Brigadier (905), Chagrin Falls, Ohio, USA Oct 20, 2007 On tap at brewpub
This was my second of roughly ten samples. Another lighter beer it was easy to work through. Kolsches are not really my thing though this one was not too bad. If you are a fan of lighter beers this may be the way to go. Personally I found it a little too simplistic.
Aroma / Appearance - The transparent golden body had a minimal head that smelled of lemon and orange peels. It was very light and faded fast; it took several attempts to get more than just a vague ’light beer’ scent.
Flavor / Palate - Each sip was light and flavorless. While it was not offensive it had nothing going for it at all. The faintly bitter finish almost gives it some life but on the whole there was a reason I tended to give this one a pass whenever I saw it on the list. gws57 (995), Saint Charles, Illinois, USA Sep 23, 2007 Had this one on draught as part of a sampler flight at the brewpub in Rockford, Illinois. Dark yellow pour with a filmy head, mild and fruity nose, a bit flowery with maybe a little chardonnay. Finished mild. Cornfield (4343), Oak Forest, Illinois, USA Sep 23, 2007 Nice warm weather drink, having a clear yellow body, a frothy head, and extensive lacing. The nose has a pale malty sweetness complemented by white grapes and a mild grassy bitterness. That hoppy bitterness seems to grow the more you drink, balancing the malt and fruit flavors. Not bad. JMerritt (1110), Macomb, Illinois, USA Mar 28, 2005 Cloudy orange with a medoium-sized head that is mostly diminishing. Lemony citric aroma with some sweet wheat notes. Grainy wheat flavor underlined by Hallertau hops. A touch thin on the palate. A solid example of the style, but I just don’t get that excited by kölsches.
