3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 15/20 Thompson (2) - - FEB 4, 2012 does not count
Bottle courtesy of Benzai. Small beige head on top of an almost black colored beer with a deep red glow coming through. Very nice strong aroma of roasted malts and some coffee. Tastes about the same. ABV could have been a little higher imo.
3.9 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 Benzai (2288) - Oirschot, NETHERLANDS - FEB 4, 2012
2010 bottle shared with Thompson. Very dark brown color with a deep dark red glare coming through. Small beige head. Smell slightly roasty, dark malts, light sweetness, slightly coffee, slightly chocolate, slightly alcohol, caramel and wood. Taste roasted malts, chocolate, coffee, hints of -in Dutch- ’drop’. Very nice balance. A bit thin texture. Medium body, average carbonation.
3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 stefannilssons (224) - SWEDEN - FEB 2, 2012
3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 Tequilakongen (263) - Oslo, NORWAY - FEB 1, 2012
Dark colour and tan head. I felt a bit disappointed by this, it’s quite sweet and the taste buds didn’t have to work overtime, as they have gotten used to. Still a good beer. (Bottle)
3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 Leighton (3571) - London, Greater London, ENGLAND - JAN 28, 2012
Bottle shared with Alice and Sander, NYC. Pours black-brown with a foamy, beige head. Some burnt dark sugar in the nose, a bit of smokey malts. Medium sweet flavor, some firewood, dark sugars, mild chocolate, some odd grass/plastic. Medium bodied with average carbonation. Modest roast and burnt grass and plastic and licorice. Kind of weird. Not altogether bad, but certainly different.
3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 _angst_ (510) - Göteborg, SWEDEN - JAN 16, 2012
330 ml bottle bought @ Systembolaget and consumed on January 16. Pours very dark reddish brown with a fizzy off-white head that leaves some lacing on the glass while dissipating. Smell is malty and slightly sour with dark bread, dried fruits and roasted malts. Taste is very malty, rather bitter and quite metallic with roasted malts, chocolate, bread and coffee. Finish is subtle and malty sweet with some cocoa.

3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 theisti (2371) - Leawood, Kansas, USA - JAN 11, 2012
11.2 fl oz bottle purchased at MDL in Overland Park, Kansas as a single. Argang 2010. The pour is black brown ruby with a one inch light tan head. Aroma is light roast malt, light honey sweet, some leaf tobacco and a dry earthiness. The sweetness of the honey pokes out a bit oddly. Taste is the leaf tobacco up front, turns to light fruit caramel cherry fruit, than the roast malt. Nice integration of flavors. Finishes with a bit of char. Palate is medium, soft creamy carbonation, and a dry mineral flinty char finish. Nice.
