One of Michael Jackson’s 500 Classic Brews. Carnegie Porter was brewed for the first time in 1836 and tastes the same today as it did then. Carnegie Porter has a creamy head with a scent of coffee. Its sweet and wellrounded flavor is balanced by the bitterness of the hops. Storage helps the flavor mature and enhances its harmony.

11.2 fl oz bottle purchased at MDL in Overland Park, Kansas as a single. Argang 2010. The pour is black brown ruby with a one inch light tan head. Aroma is light roast malt, light honey sweet, some leaf tobacco and a dry earthiness. The sweetness of the honey pokes out a bit oddly. Taste is the leaf tobacco up front, turns to light fruit caramel cherry fruit, than the roast malt. Nice integration of flavors. Finishes with a bit of char. Palate is medium, soft creamy carbonation, and a dry mineral flinty char finish. Nice.

12/30/11. 12oz bottle thanks to Seminole! Brown pour, plenty of reds under the light, with a small tan head. Sweet aromas of caramel and brown sugar. Sweet caramel flavor as well with just barely a touch of dusty chocolate and a slightly fruity and metallic aspect that reminds of foreign extra stouts. Strangely high, burning carbonation.

Bottle
Appearance - Coffee-brown body, light bubbles
Aromas - Raisins, coffee, cocoa, earthy/dry
Taste - Subtle chocolate, fruity, bitter

Another gift from OmegaX. Certainly no ordinary porter. There are the nice, earthy notes - but the high fruity character of this particular brew is fantastic.

Pours dark black with a slight brown head. Aroma of mild black coffee and slight chocolate notes. A porter with classic taste. I feel like the chocolate aromas are lacking. Seems a bit unbalanced for a porter

Bottle as Porter Klass III. Black, thick brown head with fair retention and slid lacing. Aroma of concentrated milk chocolate. Taste is smooth Hershey’s syrup. Taste is strong coffee with a tad of cocoa. Impressive for a 5% beer..

Kestral (494) - Årnes, NORWAY - DEC 8, 2011
Bottle. Black, with a small beige head. Aroma is of ashes, burnt malts, coffee, dark chocolate. Some dark fruits. Kind of earthy. Quite a bit of burnt sourness in the flavour department. Very earthy, with some coffee note. Leaning towards the bitter side of balance. with a bitter/sour finish. Medium to light bodied, not a lot of carbonation, a little bit.. limp. Not a favourite, but decent I guess.
