COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Bottle: Filtered.
One of Michael Jacksonís 500 Classic Brews. Carnegie Porter was brewed for the first time in 1836 and tastes the same today as it did then. Carnegie Porter has a creamy head with a scent of coffee. Its sweet and wellrounded flavor is balanced by the bitterness of the hops. Storage helps the flavor mature and enhances its harmony.

Ar: Sweet brown sugar, plum, treacle, and sherry. Ap: Deep brown, clear - medium very light tan head with fair retention, leaving a thin trail of lacing. T: Lots of caramel and brown sugar up front - robust malt sweetness, with pineapple and candy apple - bitterness is medium-low, with a mossy and herbal character - some mild sherry notes - cocoa, nougat, and dark caramel on the finish. P: Full body with medium-high carbonation - finish is medium-dry. O: This is a delicious baltic porter - reminds me of a sweeter, but less roasty, version of Koff - it has a ton of flavor, body, and complexity for its relatively low 5.5% abv - great!

Bottle, 330 ml, into a snifter at home. ABV 5.5% Pitch black colour on the body, thin beige head sitting on top, with good retention for its size and light lacing left on the glass. Aroma of sweet milky chocolate and light coffee coming from the back. Fantastic taste with much more coffee now, roasted malts, quite bitter, with medium to long duration. Medium thick body, good carbonation. Really nice porter.

Very mild bitterness and a faint coffee flavor. Overall all it seems very balanced. Itís easy to see how this made Michael Jacksonís 500 Classic Brews.

I was surprised to see this in my Neighborhood Liquor Storeô, so of course I had to bite the bullet. 11.2 oz bottle into a pint glass, 2010 vintage. A: Pours a dark ruby color. It appears pitch black from a glance, however it shows ruby-red edges when held up to a good light. The head is a two finger light mocha shade. It doesnít retain itself well, unfortunately, but manages to leave behind good lacing. S: Rich as hell, yet also quite sweet. Aside from mild (and expected) oxidation, there are also strong notes of dark fruits, along with a good helping of cocoa powder. It does a good job of coming across bigger than it really is. T: The opening flavors, indeed, are sweet and fruity. After that, it gradually dries out. A midtaste full of luscious cocoa powder becomes lightly ashy on the finish and aftertaste. However, it remains plummy throughout the flavor profile, and even shows some good depth. M: Itís got a lighter body, with a mild finishing dryness helping to keep some of the sweeter flavors in check. Carbonation is low as expected, but not quite flat. Itís quite easy to drink given its relative rich flavor. O: Lowish carbonation aside, this has aged like a champ. A shame Iíll likely never be able to find this again (barring a trade) because this is really excellent stuff. And hey, I didnít have to drink a crappy Carlsberg lager or sell my soul for a bottle of Kaggen! Stormakstporter just so I could tick a Swedish brew!
